That it does Shaun! Mind you, it doesn't do much for my temper on occasion chasing bits of PE around the lounge! :frown:

USS Montrose continues:
Added the bow, fo'c's'le and stern gun decks, some life rafts (yes I know there are some huge pin marks smack in the middle  ; I'm calling them bungs to stop them sinking :-D ) which will get a set of oars each when (if) I get around to making some, yet more bloomin' railings and the foremast stepped temporarily

Agreed you are taking this one to a new level. Just shows what you can do with an old kit.
Keep the pics coming.

I must admit I never thought this build would get so much attention! :-D
It is coming along slowly, last night was mainly adding a few bits and pieces, such a the funnel, guns, some more rafts, the central mast and such. I also painted the stern railings which got missed the evening before. I now have a lot of landing craft to paint, and their davits to install....

She looks pretty well armed, Iggie. Is it mostly anti-aircraft stuff?

It would appear to be; from Wikipedia:
1 × 5 in (127 mm)/38 calibre dual purpose gun
1 × quad 40 mm (1.6 in) Bofors anti-aircraft (AA) gun mounts
4 × twin 40 mm Bofors (AA) gun mounts
10 × single 20 mm (0.8 in) Oerlikon cannons AA mounts

The kit does not see fit to provide the Oerlikons unfortunately!

Cheers OT 8-)

And there's more!! :-D
just a few of the many boats & landing craft!
Image
And with all masts and boat hoists in place. I have added some lines to the hoists but they don't show from fore & aft views
Oh and I have added some metal mesh into the bottoms of the rafts to tone down the larger block of brown; I hope it'll look better after some weathering.

Cheers John :-D

Assembly is now pretty much done on the Montrose, she's had a coat of varnish and I've started some weathering. It looks a tad raw so far but I'll blend it with some darker washes to tone it down

Not forgetting the landing craft

Excellent weathering on the landing craft, it really brings them to life.

And...we're done!

I added some more weathering, using various shades of Flory washes dotted onto the hull and dragged down with a fan brush to simulate streaking, along with various splodges onto the decks etc.
Then I sprayed Xtracrylic matt varnish overall, and then did the decals and black hull bottom, plus some sewing-in elastic painted with Anthracite grey for rigging (highly simplified and non-prototypical :) )
