David takes on (a) Hercules - Revell 1/144 >>DNF << :-(
I plan on building this.
The box says 1/144 but this old mould is nearer 1/139. Close enough for me.
I plan on building an RAF Herc - probably in original delivery scheme using these decals. I also have a metal nacelle and prop set available from Aeroclub so I'll probably use that too as the Revell prop/spinner arrangement is weird.

Good, should be interesting with the Aeroclub set - just make sure all the white metal stays up front to prevent tail sitting

It's my model and I'll do what I want with it.

Excellent choice David. I don't think a transport GB could be complete without a Herc.
Should look good with those extras.

You seem to have as many builds on the go as me David! Looking forward to seeing this go together - Herc's always looked good in the RAF scheme.
Stuart Templeton I may not be good but I'm slow...

Yes, Stuart. Its getting a bit stressful. Especially as I want to be in the upcoming Fifties build too!!!Sir T wrote:You seem to have as many builds on the go as me David! Looking forward to seeing this go together - Herc's always looked good in the RAF scheme.

I kbow what you mean - I'm trying to resist the urge to join this GB.
tbh honest though, we shouldn't let it get stressful - there are no time limits on how long it should take to build a model - It's only going to sit on a shelf collecting dust when finished anyway. One of the good things about the Lightning SB is that it can just tick over in the background, so just concentrate on enjoying this.
What scheme are you going to do the Herc in?

You're right, of course. It's a hobby after all.Sir T wrote:

The Herc will probably be in the stone/brown over black scheme but I am a bit tempted by an Operation Granby one in desert pink!

Pink! Actually the other one would be good too.

Stone/Brown/Black with a pretty white bonnet is my favourite look on RAF transports.

Re: David takes on (a) Hercules - Revell 1/144
I will definitely have to use the Aeroclub engines. Firstly, Revell use an odd arrangement to make the props spinnable - the front of the spinner is static and used to pin the rear of the spinner, with the blades, to the engine.
but more importantly, the shape of the intakes and nacelle chin is way off
Here's the Aeroclub engine front.
The Revell radome also looks too sloped at the top but I think I'll leave that.

I think the Aeroclub engines are much better than Revell's, imho the nose doesn't look that bad, still Hurc like.

By the time Op Granby came around would not the RAF fleet of Hercules all have been stretched?dwomby wrote: I am a bit tempted by an Operation Granby one in desert pink !

No, Alan, they weren't. There's a pic of one in the RAF Yearbook special 'Air War in the Gulf'. In fact, I'm not sure they're all stretched now even, are they?

Re: David takes on (a) Hercules - Revell 1/144
Is there anywhere to get a suitable piece of cargo for this? A Land Rover or light tank like a Scimitar perhaps? Are there any suitably scaled kits or diecasts?
