Got a coat of primer on to see how she looks.



As you can see she is not a tail sitter but is very much 'on the edge'!
I think I will add some more weight inside the engine cowling if I can.

Overall she is not looking too bad except for a big seam line right down the middle at the top. The underside seam is invisible. Why does that always happen?



I'll tackle that seam asap and then get to work on the myriad of small hinges and other bits. Once that is done a coat of paint is looking like a possibility.

Now it's starting to come together and looking more like the real thing !

You'd never know it has had a noise job! Looking good OT!

Thanks guys. I have spent an evening filling, sanding and painting that seam line down the spine which I think has disappeared.
At the same time I eliminated the step where the wing meets the fuselage at the shoulder that is not there on the actual aircraft.
So she looks ready for a coat of paint.



As you can see the wing span is longer than the fuselage. Must have had great STOL capability.
Another problem has come to light. Not surprisingly with all the weight I added to the front end the rear wheels now sink into the fuselage under the strain.



I think some clear sprue stuck in there once the painting is complete will have to suffice.

Hope to get the camo on this weekend although life is conspiring against me.

Drilling and pinning with some thick wire or brass rod might be a better alternative

I got some colour on:



I can't find any images of this type in service so will have to trust the instructions on colour call outs. As the makers were an East German company I'm assuming they had an example in front of them so should be correct. Now all I have to do is match as near I can with the paints I have.

Wikipedia say 110 metres for both take off and landing. Pretty imressive.

Camo completed and klear coat applied ready for decals.



Since this was taken I've had to remove the engines as they prevent the cowlings from seating correctly. Think I may have to fit the engines inside the cowlings the attach them as sub-assemblies. There are still a load of small bits & bobs to fit but I'll leave them off until all the painting & decaling is complete. Same with the props which I've started painting. Otherwise the carpet monster will get fed.

The underside still needs painting and lights adding. Also a black anti-dazzle panel on the nose.
So still plenty to do but progress no the less.

10 out of 10 for sticking with it OT. I would have caved in long ago. Home straight now, nice one.

Thanks guys, she is getting there now. No pics today just a little update.

I got the engine cowlings on and underside painted. The wings have had a panel line wash too as there are some really wide depressions that needed hiding.
A bit more painting is required to create the anti-dazzle panel but I may do the top side decaling first. It always gives me energy for the final push once the decals start going on. With the decals on I can start the final assembly by adding the control surface hinges, 16 in all.

Starting to look like something now the roundels are on. They are not the best DDR markings I have but much better than the kit supplied ones. They came from the spares box and whilst the yellow does not look correct to me they were the correct size and are the type appropriate to the time frame.
Once the klear is dry I will give her a dull coat.

If you want to know more about the different styles of DDR markings I could do a powerpoint presentation. Very sad I know.

I've already learned 100% more about DDR markings than I knew a few minutes ago ... all without the assistance of powerpoint Well Done.

Almost done with this one, just the wing mirrors to add.
