Craigs Ju-52/3m Sea Transport

Post by planecrazyman61 »

Hi i will build this as the sea transport version with the floats ,the instructions don't give any indication that weight needs adding but i presume it will and am thinking of putting it in the floats

Look forward to seeing this one. The idea of putting a Ju52 on floats seems mad but apparently it worked!!.
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

Would the Ju 52 be the largest plane to be fitted with floats rather than a full-blown hull? I can't of the top of my head think of anything larger.....

Should be a good build, the kit has some good reviews
Best wishes

The DC-3 might be slightly bigger length but not span - or is it the otherway round ? Then we'd probably have to talk whether big = size, weight, or payload. However I think the short-lived Cant Z.511 would be biggest on length & span, something like near 100ft length and well over 100ft span -- don't think there is a kit for it, unless maybe a vacform.

Interesting; thanks for the information. The Cant was a nice looking aircraft, and it was interesting to read that one of the two built was shot up on Lake Trasimino; we found the old aircraft/seaplane factory, belonging to SAI Ambrosini when we were last out in Umbria
Best wishes

It'll be an impressive beast on floats.

That should look great and I think weight in the floats would be very wise.
Great choice.

Nice choice Craig mate. I did the Airfix floatplane JU some years back and it sat ok without any extra weight in it. Hope this helps.

All the best.

hi this is the 1st bit of modelling done for 2 weeks due to the man flu ,small progress with the interior and have super glued weights to the bottom of the floats

This will look good on floats Craig. I recall building the Airfix one as the float plane about a thousand years ago but certainly back then I wouldn't have though about adding weights. Of course, whether it rocks back on the floats depends upon the weight distribution as with tail sitting - if in doubt do as you have done and put a bit of weight in, it can't do any harm really.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

made some progress with the Ju-52 primed interior/fuselage but not sprayed RLM02 yet, instead stuck weights in the floats and glued them up along with the main wings also glued the fuselage as the interior can be lifted out to be airbrushed ,snapped plastic above doorways and broke off a couple of flap locating arms so repairs needed
