Shane's Wokka Wokka

Post by shangos70 »

I've decided to go with the old Matchbox Chinook. I shan't be detailing the load area but may attempt some form of representation of the red seat webbing often seen through the windows. I have a canopy mask and also the Airwaves etch , now hopefully i can manage the mesh filter screens for the turbines. So far most etch i've bought has been binned or just too fiddly for words ,well polite ones anyway.

I think I will have to do her as good old Bravo November.

Brilliant choice mate. This should be grand.

I too share your disdain for etched brass.

No point detailing the rear cabin, from past experience unless you are adding lighting, nothing can be seen.

I look forward to watching this build.

I had a little bit of time earlier and puts some basic parts of the interior together. I tried the etch I.P. , it's too big. I did put the circuit breaker panels on the cockpit bulkhead. I'm not sure if I will bother with the rest as it means cutting holes etc. I've all on cutting and measuring in 1.1 scale. The fuselage itself has no positive location points and i will have to put some tabs on the inside along the upper join to strengthen it. The rear hatch looks a dodgy fit too. I was hoping to fasten it all up nicely and not have to bother doing any work inside.

Not touched it for over a week, too tied up with work etc. Will try to get some work on it next week. The mojo always slumps after a few completions.

I've done nothing with this really, but today I saw one built up at the Hinckley show which reminded me of my lack of progress. So hopefully I can pull my finger out this week and make some progress.

Hopefully you will feel more motivated after your trip to Hinckley; still looking forward to seeing this progress!

Cheers Iggie, I think the etch put me off plus the general tricky fit of the main fuselage. I've not had much luck with my Mbox kits of late. They are usually my bread and butter. If I can get the flightdeck and innards sorted this week I should be ok. The rest mainly consists of the rotor assemblies.

Only someone who has not flown in one :) . Noisy, oil leaking everywhere, vibrating constantly. The good news is that as long as the oil is leaking you know there is still some in the system, it's when it stops leaking that it is time to worry.

But it could sure do its job !

But I don't remember us calling them "Wokka Wokka", I think we had a less family-friendly nickname.

Finally pulled my finger out and made some headway. Interior in and fuselage joined up. Fit leaves a lot to be desired. Filler along the upper join, I'm glad I added some tabs on the inside to strengthen the join.
The lower panel is a drop in and again not the best of fits. The rear door again requires some work to get it to sit something like. Dry fitting the main canopy shows gaps at the top and on the underside.
So far not one of Matchbox's finest moments. Pics later.

I got the engine pylons and various lumps added to the exterior then gave it a shot of primer. The lovely filler work I thought I'd done across the upper fuselage needs more work. Least said about the underside the better.
