The wood effect looks terrific and the background pieces look impressive too.

An excellent left field choice KB and what a great job you are doing of it.

Been a bit quiet, haven't I?

Thing is, I have this condition where my hands swell up quite badly and I've been like this for the last 10 days, wandering about with Mickey Mouse size mitts. Not good when your hobbies involve manual dexterity, but at least I've read a huge chunk of John Fortescue's History of the British Army in XIII volumes (go on, just ask me anything about the War of the Spanish Succession) and been able to re-watch Deadwood in its entirety.

When I quit, the cog itself was just about complete. Here it is:

Thanks to Alan's lighter fluid tip, the drying process really speeded up and the oils became much more manageable. Respect! I tried reproducing the furled sail with linen, but it never looked right so I stuck with the kit item and it's not bad. The whole thing still needs a bit of a weathering dust-over and some rust adding to the ironwork as it all looks a bit clean and new.

I really did like this kit, though. For anyone contemplating a first ship build, it's ideal. First of all, it's to a scale just about all of us are familiar with. The rigging is not complicated but it would work like the real thing, I think. You could make a lot more of this by replacing the moulded parts with thread, and it wouldn't be too difficult. There was hardly any messing about with fit issues, and not too many sink-holes. It's just a pity that it's not currently in Zvezda or Revell's range, but it will eventually turn up again, I'm sure.

I've not even started the figures, but I have built a couple of carts using the Zvezda Medieval Artillery set. Here's the cast of thousands:

I really, really will finish this off but not in the next few days. Typing this post has taken me an hour so far!

Sorry about your hands but the cog is beautiful. It's hard to believe it's plastic!

What is normal, Iggie? I think I'm stuck with Sausage Finger Syndrome forever.

And I know I've not commented, but you've put some brilliant stuff on this site recently.

Excellent work, it's looking brilliant.

I hope your hands get better soon, I look forward to seeing this finished.

I'm glad the lighter fluid tip worked, I have to give credit to James as he passed the tip on to me when I had the same problem as you, with the oil paints taking too long to dry.

That's very kind of you to say so Sir

And I sincerely hope that SFS turns out to be shortlived and/or treatable at least ;-)
Best wishes
