Toby's Meteoric Mk4. FINISHED
I'll be building the 1/72 Revell Meteor Mk4 which just scrapes in with markings from 1 Sqn. VZ428 Tangmere 1950.

Re: Toby's Meteoric Mk4
Here's the obligatory sprue and decal shots. This will be a complete change to the two wing things I've been building of late.

Re: Toby's Meteoric Mk4
Good kit. I built the Special Hobby initial release when it first came out and used the 'High Speed Silver" option as well. Remember, it is a Special Hobby kit and not as easy as your standard Revell of Germany or Hasegawa kit. That said, it is a nice addition to any other Meteors you have on the shelf. I particularly enjoyed building the Meteor F8 and PR10 versions.
On second thoughts, let's not go to Camelot. It is a silly place!

Re: Toby's Meteoric Mk4
Thanks Chuck. This is my first Meteor and possibly my last as I'm now moving towards WW1 stuff in general. I often to go to the Museum at Tangmere(http://www.tangmere-museum.org.uk/museum-aircraft;) so thought this version would be quite fitting.
I've done most of the work on the cockpit and have now added some weight to hopefully stop it from being a tail sitter.

Looking good. What do you plan on using for the 'high speed silver'?

Re: Toby's Meteoric Mk4
I've a variety of options. First though will be to prime the whole thing in black as this gives a depth to the top coat I find when using silver, aluminium etc.

Re: Toby's Meteoric Mk4
When I built mine, I used Tamiya Flat Aluminum XF-16 using an airbrush and found it gave a good looking high speed silver finish.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Thanks Splash. I'll probably end up using either Vallejo aluminium or their steel with a metallic lacquer to finish it off. Glad you posted a picture as It's answered a query I had re the cockpit framing.

I have used the Vallejo aluminium over their gloss black primer and it gives an excellent finish. Vallejo metalic lacquer works well giving a high gloss protective finish.TobyC wrote:Thanks Splash. I've been busy
Everything is going very well although some of the engine nacelle fits could be better. Primed in black before the Vallejo aluminium goes on.

I decided to opt for Vallejo silver but it doesn't look quite right so I'll do another coat of Vallejo aluminium on top.

Nice work Toby, I have one of these tucked away. I built the F.8 and it looks almost alike construction wise baring the difference in marks.

Premium progress. I actually like the way your vallejo metal looks like. I was expecting rather grainy finish. How is spraying it? Does it require different approach than their regular model air colors?

No,it sprays very well just like all of their other model air range.Marek wrote:Premium progress. I actually like the way your vallejo metal looks like. I was expecting rather grainy finish. How is spraying it? Does it require different approach than their regular model air colors?
