1/72 Matchbox / Revell AG Mystere IV *** FINISHED ***
First landing at the dock: Dassault Mystere IV by no other than Da Matchbox. Revell took it, repacked it and put pricetag in Euros, otherwise it is the same nice basic kit. I am trying to source different decals to these in the kit. Otherwise, if the hand cooperates, I will rescribe major surfaces. Nothing else will dress up this build.

I built one of these some years back and wasn't too impressed, I made a mess of it anyway!! I'll watch how you get on, because I'm a glutton for punishment and bought another.

Nothing like a Matchbox for a quick build. Welcome aboard!
On second thoughts, let's not go to Camelot. It is a silly place!

Well, moved along with the Mystere. It is a beautiful aircraft. Long time ago, I had built the original Matchbox release. This Revell's one is crap plastic. I had rescribed most of it by now. Few panel lines left to address but nothing major. I have built scratch pilot tub, together with 'something' that emulates the original bang seat much better.Chuck Finley wrote:

When I am done with all 'fixes' on this one, there will be finally time to start Skyraider. Can't wait.

Great work so far, especially the re-scribing (I'm just having my first go at that).
I really like this kit, I built the MB one last year.

Stuart Templeton I may not be good but I'm slow...

I have been too fast in wanting to close the aircraft, at least faster than the camera . Canopy was on before me thinking about pictures of the cockpit but I have to say it was built up from styrene sheet (side panels, part of the front panel). The bang-seat was enclosed in thin styrene sheet stripes and tape emulating straps was added. Nothing really fancy, just to look good through the glass.planecrazyman61 wrote:hi that's looking good nice job on the rescribing the panel lines, have you got any close up pic's of the work you have done in the cockpit

Enough to fool the eye was the advice I would give. Has stood me in good stead for a number of years.Marek wrote: Canopy was on before me thinking about pictures of the cockpit but I have to say it was built up from styrene sheet (side panels, part of the front panel). It is a lovely looking aircraft isn't it?

Mysterious Frenchman is primed and will be ready tomorrow for the process of being mercilessly metallized.
I modulated the blackness of primer with grey primer to see if I can influence the aluminium coat, we will see.

The modulation game did not really work, well, no bad feelings. By the time I got uniform metal coat there was none visible. Main painting done, glossed for decals:

Just be watching you tube vid of someone experimenting with peshading metals to get a worn look. They use Alclads as they can be laid down is translucent layers.

Decals on and glossed to provide some barrier against the washes etc.
I used the Carpena Decals. This time (unlike the first time I used them) they performed flawlessly. The only thing one may wish for in case of these would be a better placement guide. I can do with black and white but even xerox machines from 80ties were better.

Very nice indeed Marek!
Best wishes
