Daz's Hollywood Hispano - **FINISHED**

Post by DazDaMan »

My entry into this build will be this nice little 1/72 Hispano Buchon kit:

Image

As per my new, self-imposed build rules, I shall be building this one as an aircraft from a film, namely this one:

Image

I loved this film when I was growing up, and I've owned it on VHS, DVD and blu-ray through the years. I've watched it a couple of times recently and thought, "Oooh, I could do some of the planes from the film!"

So, onto the shopping list went a B-17F, P-51D Mustang and, of course, the Buchon.

Special Hobby's Buchon kit is nice, if a little fiddly. It's not cheap, but you get a really nice little Buchon at the end of the day! And, sadly, it's pretty much the only game in town for a Buchon in this scale. That is, unless you can find the Classic Planes kit from Germany, or the pretty cruddy Pegasus kit (somehow I've managed to build two of those!!).

The kit comes in two options - one with Battle of Britain movie modifications (clipped wings, dummy guns and tail struts, plus three decal options), and this one, the "bog standard" Spanish aircraft.

My subject is this aircraft, D-FEHD:
Image

D-FEHD is unusual, in that she was one of the very few Buchon survivors to NOT be used in the making of Battle of Britain. I believe she sat out that particular bout of Hollywood stardom as a training aircraft, so did not take part. However, in 1988 she was used in the filming of the controversial ITV series Piece of Cake (see the previously-built models thread), and subsequently took part in the filming of Memphis Belle, along with the other two Buchons from the TV series.

D-FEHD was flown as a pretty standard-looking aircraft in the film, complete with the large 20mm cannon fairings and the aerodynamic fences on the wings, so this kit will be built as OOB as possible. Decals will be from the spares box. I don't think there are any special unit markings on any of the aircraft, save for the staffel numbers on the sides, so this should be an easy ride.

Should be.....!

Looks interesting! Did the Bouchon ever carry rockets in real life, or just for the box art?
Best wishes

This one looks like it has rails fitted, so I would think yes!

Quick update - the model is already starting to look like a Buchon!

Fuselage went together earlier, and the wings are now attached. Pics later.

Cockpit installed - I haven't used any of the etched stuff, as I don't fancy fighting with it!

A few more bits to add to the airframe before I can start painting the beast.

Are those rails, or some kind of multi-pronged pitot tube arrangement?

You aren't hanging around with this one then? :-D

Those are indeed rocket rails. The Buchon was used as a ground attack machine by the Spanish during several skirmishes in Morocco. By the way Daz if you don't plan on using them I would be happy to take them off your hands as my Pegasus Buchon is in Spanish kit.....
