Well, there you go! Cheers Daz

After the slight hiatus caused by taking the boat to The Boat on Friday night (our 'local' at Stoke Bruerne), I got back to the bench for a bit on Saturday and last night. More bits added to the wings, plus tail-plane, and two coats of light blue added to the underside and fuselage sides by brush.

Another heads-up for builders of this kit; I would add the outer wing upper pieces at the same time as the lower wing parts; the instructions would have you do this later, but there are locating pins that will not engage if you do it as instructed. Also, make up the centre flaps before completing the wing to ensure there is a gap for them to engage in their places properly.

Heading home Saturday morning; Ann is steering so I'm up the sharp end for once

I wish it were! Sadly those days are over
We do see a lot of wildlife from the boat, including Kingfishers which I'd never seen before in real life and also several mink too

Some more work has resulted in the following:
Undercarriage now assembled and in place; it looks horrid at that angle but it's correct! Prop fully assembled and placed (not yet glued and it may not need gluing anyway) on the spindle; it goes round nicely with a gentle puff
Image
I drilled out the centre spindle to represent the M/G fitted through the engine, but forgot to paint it!
Interestingly the prop can be built with functioning feathering; in this shot the blades are turned to the fully feathered position....I have no idea why this was given as an option but it's a nice touch! 8-)

After a few evenings of real life interference I'm back in harness. I decided to get the wings painted fully before starting on the fuselage so using Revell mouse grey anf grey blue I freehanded the camo using an airbrush. According to the instructions, late model Gs had soft demarcation rather than the usual hard edged splinter patterns of earlier marks.
Fuselage painting commences tomorrow hopefully!

Cheers Daren

I managed to escape real life long enough this evening to get out and do some more spraying; I masked up the wing upper surfaces to avoid over spray and then freehanded the solid colours along the fuselage upper sides and spine, and then the mottling. I'm quite pleased how it turned out, add it's really the first time I've done anything like this
I added the cockpit windscreen & also gave it a gloss coat ready for decals

And added the prop temporarily to see how it looks

That is a most excellent looking Gustav in the making.... 32nd scale is too big for the Nick Cave, but I have a couple FW190 Doras in storage awaiting a rebuild. Definitely going to crib some ideas here for them.

That is a beast! I really like that.

I've just had the new Revell 1/32 Spitfire IX turn up at my door, so this might make a nice companion for it!

Thanks GMG & Daren!

I must admit that after this and the 1/32 Tiger Moth I did for the large scale GB, I am getting to quite like these bigger scale kits!
Decals went on last night, and weathering this evening

No pictures tonight but all decals are on, some exhaust and gun staining sprayed, pitot tube on, various other sticky-out bits are done.
Last bits of painting and a matt varnish tomorrow evening should see it complete

And we're done:
I've really enjoyed this build, and also learnt a bit about using my airbrush! Lower pressure equals less splatter and premature drying of paint on the needle and nozzle; much better!
