So I have been painting the Emil...

Canopy on and framing painted in RLM 02 and white bits painted and masked..

Image

Main base paint on. My RLM 63 is a home brew of RLM02 and LAG about 50/50.

Image

masked for the black bits...

Image

Black bits painted and also RLM02 on the slat bays..

Image

everything had a clear coat and i heard the Airfix decals were pants which looke to be true based on the decal sheet in the box..

So I decided to paint the republican main markings...

here masked up...

Image

and painted

Image

I was going to use the decal for the rudder cross but it fell apart in the water...

so I have masked and painted that Im not holding out much hope for the rest of the decals...

Cheers

Great work GF and that is an excellent bit of masking for the main markings - no chance of any silvering there!
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Lovely work Gadfly. You are much braver than me painting the roundels on. I'd worry too much about placement.
At least with decals you can move them around.

Thanks...

Getting the mask location is not too hard I added paper strips to the mask on this build and this makes setting the mask in place very easy.

Here is the latest progress...

Image

the kit decals as predicted were crap... The code numbers packed a sad as soon as they hit the water... I gave cutting some masks from frisket a try but the codes '6 99' proved troublesome as the centres of the numbers are quite elongated on the Legion Condor font so hard to cut by hand.. I plumped for some decals a generic sheet of nationalist codes and roundels.. I dont think these will arrive by the end of the GB and to finish the build I need the decals a clear coat then weathering etc... So I reckon I'll be late with the build...

Never mind...

Cheers

It looks great in those Spanish Civil War colours and markings GF and it is a shame indeed about the pants decals which will now delay your progress. It's going to look great when it's finished though!
