Daz's Eternal Zeros - **FINISHED!!**
Daz's Eternal Zeros - **FINISHED!!**
A couple of years ago, I watched the excellent Japanese war film, Eien No Zero, on DVD. It tells the story of a Japanese fighter pilot who had long gone down in history as something of a coward, but his grandchildren uncover a lot more of the truth behind his story than they really bargained for.
It's a great film, but also a pretty bloody good book, which I read earlier this year:
Hasegawa brought out a kit to tie in with the release of the TV series based on the book as well:
The box actually includes TWO of their A6M2 Zero kits, with decal options for FIVE of the aircraft seen in the film/series.
I'd been wanting to add at least one of the aircraft from the film to my movie model collection, and since the film is based on a book, this seems like an ideal opportunity to do so!

Re: Daz's Eternal Zeros
Excellent! Pretty soon this GB will have more Zeroes than an M.P.s expenses sheet!

So, here's a shot of the bits in their bags:
I've only recently turned on to the charms of the Hasegawa kits and, from what I've seen so far, I kinda like them. Building these two should be a pleasant experience!

I'll commence with one of these on Monday, with any luck.

Getting to work on the Zero earlier - the first thing I started was the wings:
After maybe 15mins, this is where I was up to:

Zero progress:
Fuselage going together (cockpit installed), and the wings and instrument panel are next. Gone together fine, so far. My only problem is which aircraft to do it as - there are FIVE to choose from in the instructions!

Re: Daz's Eternal Zeros
This one has progressed a lot quicker than I thought!
The second coat of paint will go on soon.
I decided to do this one as the last aircraft flown by the main character (Kyuzo Miyabe). He opts to fly an A6M2 instead of his usual M5 version, as it was the type he first flew in combat. Of course, the other kit in the box will be done as one of his earlier aircraft - either at the training school, or the one from the Pearl Harbor mission.

Re: Daz's Eternal Zeros
Unfortunately, I've run into a little issue with the undercarriage on Zero #1.
I'd glued them both in over the weekend, and left what I thought was plenty of time to let them cure in place before I turned the model over to sit on its wheels. Unfortunately, they seem to have collapsed on both sides, meaning that I've had to repair the damage and leave the model to sit for the time being while the glue cures!
Slightly annoying!
That said, it does allow me to crack on with Zero #2, which should be an easier job, considering that the paint scheme is a lot simpler.

I've commenced with the build of the second Zero.
I won't bother to document it, since it'll be identical to the first, up to the paint scheme!

I said I wouldn't document this build, but I thought I might as well at least post an update....

Re: Daz's Eternal Zeros
That's odd, was it 24 hours ? I'm not familiar with the Revell glue, but could you have put too much in the gear/wing join that it still didn't set up ? I know you've done more than a few models and so should be handy with it.DazDaMan wrote:Unfortunately, I've run into a little issue with the undercarriage on Zero #1.

It's my model and I'll do what I want with it.

Re: Daz's Eternal Zeros
It was over 24hrs, yeah, so unsure as to why the gear failed.
Hopefully the gear is fixed now - last thing I want is a couple of wonky Zeros!
