Looking good Splash!

I know, I'm facing the same dilemma with my Mosquito: we can't exactly replicate the 2-dimensional look of the illustrations because the 3D model has light, shading, sheen, more detail etc. I think it's about trying to capture the spirit of the books rather than the exact look. The CGI movie did a good job of that IMO.

Good point. :-D

I have taken all your advice and given the figures another coat of black and I'm happier now, I have added some baggage in the rear and covered it with a PVA soaked tissue to represent a cover.

Yes, the extra black did it. Lovely figure work, Splash.

To me, the solid colours you've used so far have beautifully captured the whole feel of the Herge illustrations, and to have captured the characters of Thompson and Thomson so well in 1/72 is superb.

Being a confirmed cheapskate when it comes to modeling I have gone for the cheapest option for making my display stand.

I found a good size yogurt Carton with a glossy black lid with a flat indentation on the top, I have painted the centre earth brown and then used a railway modelling trick of using static grass.

To use static grass you have two options, you can use a cheap puffer bottle for small areas or use an electro static grass dispenser, these are normally quite expensive to by, but being a cheapskate I have simple bought an electronic fly swat and a metal strainer both from Poundland and with the simple dismantle and joining of the two with the addition of a length of wire and two solder joints for the costly some of £2 I have a static grass dispense :-D

The PVA glue is still wet so the earth brown undercoat should show through once it dries.

Cool. How rigid is the yoghurt lid? Does it need any strengthening underneath?

The plastic is quite thick and has a lovely high gloss, the design of the lid with its large rounded edge and lowered round centre makes it quite ridged requiring no extra support.

It's the closest I have seen to a instant free base.
