Not with me at the moment, but the Jigsaw was a T-34 chassis and a Walker Bulldog turret and gun. I have just about everything I need for that build except for the skill. I hope to get some of that from this build.Saxon wrote:
The jigsaw tank would be cool, I had a number of issues, it rings a bell. Do you have any pics of that?

Re: The Haunted Tank - From DCs Comic G.I. Combat
I did a little more work on the interior in the way of weathering. Basically I just used pastel chalks (Brown and Black) to dirty things up
Here is an idea of what will be seen through the front hatches
Just before I lock it up I'll give it a shot of dull coat
Till next time....

That is one fine looking kit, and one of my favourite tanks. can't wait to see how you bring it to life!

Re: The Haunted Tank - From DCs Comic G.I. Combat
Working on the commander's area in the turret. Because I'm replacing the kit part with a more accurate resin piece I have to make some modifications. I built the "commander's basket" as I am calling it as per the kit instructions.
The replacement turret is a solid piece of resin so somethings need to be changed. For one the main gun interior parts will not be used. Two, the mounting part of the "Commander's basket" need to be modified. The mounting bracket for the seats interfere with the turret. The top ring and the basket is suppose to be held in place by sandwiching the hull between them. If you don't modify this the turret won't sit properly on the hull. The easy answer is to leave off the top ring, but the top ring has the mounts for the seats. The answer was to reduce the top ring till it properly fits.
Before:
After: Now the basket snugly fits into the hull. Some liquid glue will keep it in place
Next I removed the solid base of the turret. Then made some gouges in the resin to allow the turret to rest properly on the hull.

Time to start some other updates. I started with the engine cover. I cut out the kit molded grill and replaced it with photoetch supplied with the Verlinden kit

A lot of work on that turret/basket, but it'll look good through the hatches when done.
No fun working with solid resin parts like that, fearing that it could shatter at any time.

Re: The Haunted Tank - From DCs Comic G.I. Combat
Continuing with the Haunted Tank,
You can see how well the turret sits on the hull now.
Front hatch frame from the Verlinden upgrade kit is in place
I came to a realization, and that is the aftermarket parts are not all that much better then the kit parts. Sure, some are but not many. For example the resin gun barrels are really nice but then again so are the kit barrels. So I decided to use the kit barrels and save the resin barrels for some other project in the future. The same for the parts to the back of the tank. The air containers and the storage compartments.
One part I will replace is the radio antenna mounting bracket.
I used my "Bug" to bent the part into shape
The part in place
Till next time.... Lets make tracks

Re: The Haunted Tank - From DCs Comic G.I. Combat
Verlinden was early and often all we had but, IMO, they never caught up.
I just got done using some machine tools in a shop van and I'm convinced they are overscale, probably get their 1/35 & 1/32(54mm) confused.
Going to look nifty, regardless.
