Re: Lancfan's Biggles Baltic Attacker
The fin has been smoothed over with filler and sanded down to lose the fabric effect and the stub wings have been cut back to set the dihedral for the new wings which have now been fitted.

Re: Lancfan's Biggles Baltic Attacker
This is a cracker!
Mine was far more implausible and based more off the frontispiece illustration, but I did go with the ludicrously beefed up engine:

I have toyed with the possibility of re-doing this aircraft from a Swordfish kit going by the cover art, as you're doing here, but with so many other projects it's an extremely low priority.
I'm really looking forward to how yours turns out.

Re: Lancfan's Biggles Baltic Attacker
The Battle tailplanes were now fitted.
The finished airframe viewed from underside, to break up the plain appearance I glued a plastic card panel under the fuselage to busy things up just a little.
When I dry fitted the float pylons I thought them too big so they have been shortened and cleaned up a little more.
When I fitted the modified pylons the ground angle looked about right, but when I test fitted the replacement engine it looked odd stuck out at the end of the nose given the small diameter so this was shortened to make the nose blend in with the engine nacelle.
The Swordfish floats seemed too small so these Kingfisher floats were dug out of the spares box.

Looking really good, David...from the text description and first glance at the cover, my thoughts were towards an amphibian Wellesley...I do really like the gloved float pylons vice the Swordfish struts set-up, makes it look so much more modern...

Re: Lancfan's Biggles Baltic Attacker
Great conversion, both visually and logically - the two tailplanes seem a bit small, but carry on, it is fascinating work.

Looking really good, David, and I'm beginning to get very jealous of your spare parts box!

Re: Lancfan's Biggles Baltic Attacker
The basic camouflage has been applied and the engine fitted.
The model is starting to look the part with the decals in place.
The Airfix Kingfisher floats have been converted, assembled and fitted to the model.

That looks excellent as if it really existed.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Re: Lancfan's Biggles Baltic Attacker
Thanks Alan, this early invention of W.E. Johns was much more elaborate than the later invented aircraft and does look believable because of his description, I do wonder if he sought advice from the aircraft industry when writing this story.

Very nice conversion work, David. And hey, now you have all the bits for a Fairey Battle biplane.......

Love this! An excellent interpretation of the description
Best wishes
