Cheers for the kind words.
I used a cut down stiff bristle brush and stippled aluminium onto the model. I had a browse through wartime pics of Hurricanes and overdid the effect to make it look very used and abused. Not finished with the weathering yet though.

All the best.

I managed a bit of bench time on the Hurricane this evening. The home made decals workd ok but the red falcon decals are a bit translucent. I will try putting another over them to see if that helps. The erstwhile Mr Redburn is now occupying his office and..... well here are the pics.

All the best.

Looking good Greg, very weather beaten and time served look about it!

Nice! That weathering is suitably Russian Front looking. :-D
I found when trying to make my own decals that red and yellow sometimes needed two layers to show up strongly or else copy onto white decal sheet with all the footery trimming that option entails.

I'm going to try and overlay the first falcon with a second one to see if that helps.

All the best.

Hey now, that's a lot better. I got down to some serious decal today, and have a couple of repairs to do myself.

Cheers Greg. Next job on this batteted old battler is a matt coat to seal the decals after tidying some of the weathering I am not too happy with.

All the best.

The heavily weathered look has turned out to be a masterstroke!...it makes the pale decals look appropriately faded for the rest of the kite.

BTW, Have you seen this Johnny Red book that tells the story of Johnnys Hurri being found and restored years after the war? Check out the 'Look inside' preview

Well. I am considering this one finished for the purpose of the G-B. This has added a model to my collection that I have wanted for ages. I know I did a Johnny Red Hurricane quite some time ago but it was inaccurate and also is now missing. I have enjoyed the build yhough I had to rush it to finish it before the Thursday deadline so I have made a complete mess of the canopy. That will be fixed at a later date. Enough of me babbling on. Pics time.

That's a stunner Greg, having just read the first four episodes of the Johnny Red strip in a library book compilation of 'The best of Battle Comic' it beautifully captures the whole feel of the conditions that the Red falcons operated under. I really hope that you continue with the Red Falcons base thing after the GB, if it's as good as this it'll be a fantastic tribute to the gritty realism of the early storyline.

I am already working on a Policarpov I153 as a Falcons bird and next up will probably be Yakobs Mig3. I have a PO2 to do as Nina Petrova's aircraft (I think I remembered the correct name). I am planning a few builds along this theme. I can see me needing to print a few more sheets of the Falcon badge.

All the best.

Sounds to me like you're going to build the entire series, I'm looking forward to seeing what you do.

I guess I'm going to have to get some comic books and get up read up on the Falcons.
