Zig Zag or Die; iggie's Comic entry ***FINISHED***

Post by iggie »

Please forgive the rather late commencement of this entry to the GB, a certain French battleship held up starting anything new rather longer than I had wanted! Better late than never I suppose!

I started a couple of evenings back, so this is the progress up to last night; the kit is a re-box of the ICM tooling and to be honest although better than the older Revell tool, it has a distinct whiff of the limited run about it. Locator pins are tiny where present, the instructions are a little vague as is the fit of a number of parts. That said, it apparently looks more accurate, although I wouldn't have a clue about that! I bought the kit specifically for this GB, only to find the older Revell boxing in the stash    That one has now been disposed off via eBay  As luck would have it though, I found an old set of Spanish Civil War markings for it so I'll be able to use them on the 'Blitz'. There will also be a D510 rocking up soon as the other half of the build

Cool! If you want some copies of the cover, minus the Heinkel and Dewotine, printed onto 160g card to use as a backdrop, PM me your address.

Hi PT; I'm good thanks, I'll use the cover you did in the GB chat thread and photograph them in front of the screen. If that doesn't work I'll print the background and try that
Thanks anyway!

The Blitz continues; sprayed all over with AK Interactive Metallic Aluminium, then decals on....this is where I got ahead of myself and forgot to paint the black around the nose. I have now done this but had to cut in around the lightning flash decal...  . The undercarriage is assembled (it's rare I build anything wheels up apart from ships  ) and needs paint.

And this is the scheme the D510 will be finished in to represent the Republican attacker:

Which is handy as it has no lettering or numbering :-D

So here we are nearly finished with the Blitz thankfully. Not a great kit and having previously owned and now sold the older Revell version, I suspect I should have done things the other way around!

Hopefully the D510 part of this build will be a more pleasant experience

You've still got it looking good despite the issues.

Thanks gmg & PT

Battle has commenced with the Heller D510; to say it's a delight compared to the dog that is the Revell/ICM Blitz is an understatement......
This is where we are with it after one evening:

And I'm calling this done!
The Heller D510 was a lovely little kit to build, the only slight trouble was getting the multi-part undercarriage to set correctly but it was no worse than any similar u/c would be from any other manufacturer so no real drama. Thankfully the comic cover shows no registration lettering etc, so my first ever painted markings

So to recreate the cover, I mounted both aircraft on lengths of sprue, bent to the approximate angle required and glued into holes drilled into the underside of each fuselage. The posts were then stuck into a block of oasis, placed in front of my PC monitor, with the edited cover provided by PT behind; simples! :-D I then airbrushed out the posts using the Canon Digital Photo Professional software I use to sharpen shots taken with my 'big' camera and this is the result:
