iggie's 'back to school' Camel ***DNF***
Despite having purchased one of the recent WNW Camel releases, I have decided to go with the Academy 1/32 offering that has been in the stash for longer; I'm not sure I will have the time to tackle the WNW offering in the period of this GB and start the upcoming bomber GB as well, plus we are away for a week amongst all this too!
The kit looks nice and simple, the parts don't appear to have any flash on them and the instructions include full details for rigging which the kit has been designed to assist with
What on earth could possibly go wrong...
Sprue shots etc to follow when we are underway

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Re: iggie's 'back to school' Camel
Good choice. I did this one last summer; it's a really nice kit and the rigging's a doddle, but throw the decals away, right now. Horrible, made out of lino. Totally ruined a very enjoyable build.

Re: iggie's 'back to school' Camel
Thanks for the tip Kevan; I'll give them a try anyway and see what transpires, as it'll delay the build(s) if I have to order replacements. You can say 'I told you so' later
I have also got some Uschi wood grain for the Camel; I'll use this for the exterior and use the 'knotted' version for the interior (already in stock)
I have also just received a second Academy Camel F.1 Time permitting this will allow a second build using the alternate scheme, or (more likely) it will go into the stash for later. At a tenner plus post age, it seemed rude not to!

Keen to see how the wood decal works out for the turtle deck in contrast to oil paint methods.

Re: iggie's 'back to school' Camel
So, we're off!
The box contents:
No need for rib tape with this kit!
I've now sanded the ridges down flatter so they are about 1mm wide on their tops
Wood decal applied to cockpit floor; setting solution is still wet in this picture so it'll look better (hopefully) when dry. I'll cut around the rudder pedal tracks then, and paint them in gunmetal
Cockpit interior; decal to be applied and the inside face of the canvas to be painted and rigging drybrushed

That cockpit floor looks great with the decal.
Savage ejector pin marks on the kit though!

Yep, they're all over the inside of the fuselage......and therefore invisible once it's buttoned up so I'm ignoring them

Re: iggie's 'back to school' Camel
I forgot to add some earlier progress to the thread; this was from a couple of evenings ago
IP has had it's woodgrain, and the gauges/dials filled with black ready for some white highlights later. The cockpit floor grain has settled well, and the rudder pedal tracks are painted in steel. The wicker seat has had a coat of something (I can't recall as I type) like linen, and a darker brown wash to pick out the basket weave. I have also added woodgrain to the cockpit side walls; more of that later
And some further work last evening:

Agreed, lovely job there. That UvdR woodgrain works a treat. I'd been hoping to stun everyone by using it on the fuselage of an Eduard Albatross, but somebody beat me to it..........

Quite nice
Besting 60 years of mediocre building of average kits in the stand off scale

It does work nicely I must admit; looking forward to trying it on the outside as well! The 1/72nd version looked well on the Albatross earlier in the year

Re: iggie's 'back to school' Camel
Yeah, it went on a treat when I did my own build of this very kit last summer. You need to do it in sections as you already know of course, it reminded me of wallpapering the stairwell. Even if it breaks up a bit you can get it back together without the join being obvious.
Anyway, why am I spending time commenting on yours when I ought to be cracking on with mine?!!!!

I've had a night off from the Camel, but still spent time at the bench; more of this in the morning
