Jeff's Eduard Humpback
Jeff's Eduard Humpback
Here is the introduction to the kit.
Boxart:
The innards:
Probably my most ambitious build ever so hoping for the best. This kit is the profipak edition so it features a PE fret, a few bits of resin and two decal sheets that feature many subjects.
A new technique for me is the use of a product called Wonder Wire. It is a ceramic rigging medium that a guy on my model club demonstrated. Seems to snap off when cut. A 10 foot coil costs $10USD. He sure made t look easy. We will see.
So it is off to the races.

Love the box art!
I'll be interested to see how the 'wonder-wire' performs!

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Re: Jeff's Eduard Humpback
Slow but steady progress so far.
Layout of the wings and flapper do's. Part numbers are hard to read on the sprues to make sure you have the correct port and starboard pieces. They received a coat of linen. I decided not to do pre-shading on this build. Original plastic is mauve in color.
Lots of photo etch with four pieces on the fuselage decking. Comprises of inspection hatches and fabric re-enforcement rings. Harking back to my old Aeronca 7AC Champ days.
The engine is coming along. Having a bit of trouble with the plastic parts (rocker arms, I think) that are brittle and snap off easily. Will probably cut them all off and use stretched sprue. There is always that one area of each kit that drives you crazy, right?

Re: Jeff's Eduard Humpback
That does look a nice kit Jeff although I know what you mean about a part of a kit getting on your nerves! In my case it was my recent build of the ICM/Revell He-70.....only it was ALL the parts that got me down!
Best wishes

Re: Jeff's Eduard Humpback
Nice kit to have chosen. Should polish up a treat. I'm keen to hear how the wonder wire goes too. Is the diameter optimized for 1/48?
Also, pre-shading? Do you mean for wing rib detail?

Re: Jeff's Eduard Humpback
It is .006 diameter and recommended for 48th. My guy in the club has used it in 72 and looks pretty good. It is also a metallic color.

Re: Jeff's Eduard Humpback
Jealous! I really wanted this Eduard kit for my own build, but I couldn't find one anywhere.
Can't wait to see how Wonder Woman - sorry, Wire, works out.

Today's efforts
Adding the wood grain to interior bits. My technique is to paint on Tamiya Dark Yellow and let dry. Using Tamiya Red Brown I streak the dark yellow to simulate wood grain. I finish off with a coat of Tamya Clear Yellow to blend everything in.
On top of that work is the pilots seat. Using photoetch. The original plastic seat was used as a guide to bend in the curve. Very tedious work to say the least. Watching the calendar so I don't use up to much time.
All in all a really good build. It is NOT a Blitzbau.

Great looking wood grain.
Wood effect....photoetch....rigging.... yeah, no risk of blitzbaus hereabouts.

Re: Jeff's Eduard Humpback
Not much of an update today. Had a big chunk of today for bench time. Seems like every piece cut from the spruce broke a fair bit away from the blade point. So I set the Camel aside and fell back to shelf queen. Keep calm Jeff. It will be alright. Very brittle plastic this one with many spruce gates. Even tried my razor saw.

Re: Jeff's Eduard Humpback
I started building one of these about four years ago and had exactly the same problems with parts breaking. Sad to say, it ended up in the bin but that was mostly due to my own ineptitude.
As you say, keep calm and camel on!

Re: Jeff's Eduard Humpback
Had a rather special evening. I attended a Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band tribute featuring members of local rock bands, high school symphony orchestra and choir. Two part show featuring Beatles tunes and finally to complete album. It was really good. Just what the doctor ordered.
Back at it today. It will not defeat me.

How's this one doing? Did (Flight) Sergeant Pepper provide inspiration to go back into battle with it? :D
