Marky's large scale Camel (no Stuka) ***FINISHED***
Marky's large scale Camel (no Stuka) ***FINISHED***
Hi, this is my effort. I thought seeing as it's a centenary it would be worth doing something a little bigger than 1/72nd!!.
Decals,
Parts,
Friendly (and leaning doing nothing) Ground Crewman,
The kit comes with a spool of cotton for the rigging, some of which has to be done early on, the fuselage (tail and nose) have some added from inside, managed to glue the fuselage together without trapping it!!. The cockpit has a floor, seat and control column, as well as an IP, rear bulkhead and u shaped bar for the prop to attach. More pics soon.

Rapid progress Mark!
interestingly, the firewall looks identical in your kit to the moulding for the same piece in my Academy one. Possibly that was the only way to tool it from the original, and there are other differences between the two kits that I can see from the various bits on view on your bench so probably not a copy/tool share!

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Re: Marky's large scale Camel (no Stuka)
Iggie:- I've looked at your kit on your thread and I see what you mean, a few parts look similar if not the same. My Camel is getting there, the tail has been rigged as the instructions have you put thread (supplied in kit), through holes in the rear fuselage. Confusingly they tell you to do this in five holes but on both sides of the fuselage, which seems unnecessary as one side ends up going into the other anyway!!.
Bit of a gap here although I think the large hole is supposed to be there..
Wing rigging in place. I have attached the wing to the fuselage since this pic..

No, although everything else has been pretty good so far. There isn't actually much to speak of under the guns themselves either, whether there is supposed to be I don't know.VickersVandal wrote:Man, that gap doesn't speak well of their moulding!

Getting along. Painting has started early in order to make it easier once the top wing goes on!..

Re: Marky's large scale Camel (no Stuka)
Top wing is now on although getting the struts to touch at the same time was a challenge. Pushing the cabane struts into place made the wing ones move and vice-versa!. All good now though. Undercarriage on.
Prop and wheels painted as well.

Progress so far. Rigging all done, might need to paint the wires, underside needs another coat as I used the wrong brown on the lower wing!!. Decals next and the two inspection panels on the engine sides.

Re: Marky's large scale Camel (no Stuka)
Thanks chaps. The green is Humbrol 116, maybe not the right one but as you say it's turned out well. I did the nose in Humbrol 30 for some 'difference'. I have a picture that shows the aircraft in the Revell instructions but in colour so have based it on that.

I think there is a huge amount of licence that can be taken with WW1 aircraft colours; I use Revell Bronze Green for mine!

She's all done. Lost one of the inspection panels, no doubt it would be found with a tidy up!! . Some pics taken but proper shots will be done tomorrow. Looks good to me and nice to have a sizeable Camel model.
