Here is my chosen kit for the IWM Camel, the parts look far better than the older offerings and it will hopefully build up easily.

Re: Lancfan's Lambeth Camel
Excellent! Another Roden 72. They go together pretty happily. None of the usual Roden fit hassles.

Looking forward to seeing this progress David
Best wishes

Re: Lancfan's Lambeth Camel
Here are the sprues for both models, I will build these side by side using different parts as required from both kits by following current pictures to recreate these two preserved aircraft.

Re: Lancfan's Lambeth Camel
Have you had a chance to start on this, David? The decal options for this kit are great! That said though, the IWM Camel is a very worthy subject.

Re: Lancfan's Lambeth Camel
The machine displayed at Lambeth N6812 was flown by Flight Sub-Lieutenant Stuart D Culley and was launched from a barge towed by the destroyer HMS Redoubt on 11th August 1918 when he shot down German Zeppelin L.53- the last German airship to be shot down during the Great War. Comparing the full-size aircraft to the kit there are a number of changes I need to make to properly represent this aircraft, luckily the optional parts included with these kits have this covered with the minimum of modification.
Both sets of sprue were pre-painted during the same session, painting the internal structure was quite painful as this detail is very shallow and of course quite small and as most of this is out of sight when the fuselage is assembled was something of a waste of time. This aeroplane is displayed suspended from the ceiling with an empty cockpit so all the details were installed

Re: Lancfan's Lambeth Camel
Looking good so far. That cockpit detail is certainly a pain. I relied on washes to bring out the raised detail.

Re: Lancfan's Lambeth Camel
That pesky detail aside these Rodan Great War models are a massive improvement on the classic kits.

Re: Lancfan's Lambeth Camel
The oddly facetted rear fuselage sides were levelled off with Plasty filler to correctly depict a taught, fabric covered fuselage.
That done the lower wing was drilled for the rigging and glued to the fuselage.
