Mi CASA es tu CASA! (Daz's Spanish Heinkel build) **DNF**

Post by DazDaMan »

OK, so I'm probably mad for trying this, but I hope to be able to do this one for the GB:

Image
This, of course, is the CASA 2.111, otherwise known as the Spanish-built Heinkel 111. A large number of these were utilised in the filming of the 1969 classic Battle of Britain, although sadly none are still flying today.

I picked this kit up a long time ago. I think it was an eBay job, and possibly a Revell kit. Anyway, I had always intended to make it into the CASA-Heinkel, and some kind folks on this forum supplied me with some spare Lancaster engine parts in order to do so (thanks, whoever you were!)

Image

However, while the build itself will be interesting enough, this one will be all the more interesting for the fact that I don't have any instructions for it!!

This..... could be fun!

OK, so I started off with the flying surfaces first....

...then the fuselage....

....before tackling those engine nacelles....

I'll need to saw the old engine positions off the Heinkel's wing in order to get those Merlins to line up.

Thinking about it, though, I reckon those Lanc nacelles would work fine on the front end of a Messerschmitt, too...!

I'm not sure I'm gonna get this finished in time for the end of the GB - real life has interfered, unfortunately, plus there's an issue I didn't quite foresee with the engine fit!

Would a small extension of time make completion more likely?

I'd certainly get it done if I had an extra week, but that's up to yourself!

Ok, I'll have a look at the calendar to make sure we won't clash too much with anything else running or starting, but I think a week should just be doable

This is interesting, Daz but looks to be a fair bit of work given the time, even with an additional week - I'd be pratting about with this sort of conversion for about six months  :ha: . Best of luck!

If I remember correctly the Merlin cowling sits higher than the Heinkel engines. You will need to fill in the rear above the wing if this is the case. Great progress though mate. Am still following closely.

All the best.

I've had a look at the calendar; the only scheduled GB is the August Blitzbau so I can't see that we will tread on any toes by running a further week to Sunday 6th August

So crack on Daz; wield the knife and the filler and hopefully we'll see you get to finish this intriguing conversion :-D
Best wishes

It's getting there. Slowly.....

Image

The engines are on, waiting for the filler to dry around the worst gaps and steps before I can get to work on them.

I still don't think I'll finish it, though.
