iggie's woeful Wimpy (Better late than never!) **FInished**
Finally!! I have made up my mind what to build, and I've even made a start!
I have chosen the 1/72 Trumpeter Wellington Mk.IC, for a couple of reasons;
1. I want to see just how bad the 'over done' (according to some) surface detailing really is once it's under a coat of paint , and;
2. It'll make room in the stash for a direct replacement next year when the Airfix new tool arrives
So far, I have assemble most of the cockpit; painting to follow

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Nice one, Iggie and I also think the Wimpy is a good choice. Those interior bits look to have some decent enough detail that should pop out nicely under the paint.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Hopefully you will have it completed before Airfix release their new kit.

Re: iggie's woeful Wimpy (Better late than never!)
Right; progress at last!
Cockpit and fuselage interior assembled and painted. My research determined that the fuselage interior was a reddy/brown colour from the dope applied to the canvas exterior, with black at each end. Not much will be visible from outside once the fuselage is assembled so I'm not taking too much time over it!

Looking good. Of course, I plan on sticking to the obviously superior Matchbox kit that sits in my stash.
On second thoughts, let's not go to Camelot. It is a silly place!

Re: iggie's woeful Wimpy (Better late than never!)
I have to say that the fit of this kit has been superb, and I really like the method for attaching the wings; there are two box like blocks that are glued to the fuselage sides within the outline of the wing sections, and the wings click over them. The join is actually good enough that you could leave it at that, but a run of Tamiya Extra Thin just makes sure. Otherwise, there is not a single gap or seam that needs fillingChuck Finley wrote:Looking good. Of course, I plan on sticking to the obviously superior Matchbox kit that sits in my stash.
Some rapid progress was made over the weekend, between working and some family stuff; assembly is now pretty much complete bar the turret, cockpit and fuselage glazing, and I've got a first coat of Dark Earth on the topsides. Having never seen the top surface detail of an intact Wellington, I can't comment about the accuracy or otherwise of the surface detail on this kit. I suspect though that as the paint goes on and especially after a good matt coat it will be less defined and less obvious. It will be interesting to compare with the NT Airfix release in due course
Assembly complete:
And with some Dark Earth on top:

And the topsides are now painted, all using AK Interactive acrylic applied avec le 'airy stick
Most of the undersides are painted too, with Revell Anthracite (I don't like using black for anything nowadays)...masking needed to do the demarcation between top & bottom, but that'll be the weekend now I suspect the way work is going

And she's finished; paints were AK Interactive for the topsides and Revell Anthracite beneath. Two coats of W & N matt varnish overall

That looks a treat Iggie. A good looking aeroplane, and nice reference pic from Marine too.
