Daz's Favourite Frog Fighter - **FINISHED**

Post by DazDaMan »

I debated whether or not to join in this GB, but then I thought "Why the hell not?" :ha:

As you can no doubt gather from the thread title, my chosen kit will be this....

Image

And, since the war film Dunkirk is currently still big news, my chosen subject will be this....

Image

This is one of the three real Spitfires that appear in the film - two of them being Mk.Is suitably marked up as appropriate aircraft.

I love the Frog Spitfire kit, having built a small number of them over the years, so this will be a fun build!

So, tomorrow I'm due to kick off this latest Blitz with a firm favourite kit.

I know most of you chaps litter your threads with whatever you're eating or listening to, but I shall be using films to punctuate my various build segments throughout the day, starting with this.....

I've installed a seat of some description in the cockpit, so that I can fit a 1/72 version of Tom Hardy in the cockpit....

Betty casts a critical eye over the Spitfire's progress.

Interestingly, the film A Yank in the RAF features a good chunk of Spitfire action towards the end, including having them dogfighting with Me109s over Dunkirk!

Perhaps a bit more interesting is the fact that Spitfire survivor R6915 features briefly in the aerial sequences!

Next up in the DVD player is this....

Image

Anton Walbrook stars as a Polish fighter pilot cum concert pianist who escapes the Nazis and embarks on a fundraising tour of America while romancing Sally Gray. Later on, he flies Spitfires in some brief dogfights against the Huns.

The spinner has been fitted and the propeller holes filled in, as this one will be mounted "in flight".

Then I started painting the undersides....

While I have my lunch (the second half of a foot-long sausage roll from Morrisons!), I'm gonna stick this on....

I'll carry on with the Spit afterwards.

Good morning Daz. Just about missed this. I've seen Yank but I not seen Reach for the Sky.

I think Betty in 1/72 would be a bit disappointing! :ha:

It's pretty good - plenty of aerial stuff, with an interesting array of types (Avro 504, Bristol Bulldog, Spitfire XVIs and Hurricanes).

An essential for any war film collection!
