Matchbox PK43. OH58D Kiowa Aeroscout***Finished***
Re: Matchbox PK43. OH58D Kiowa Aeroscout
Second hour and the innards are sprayed Tamiya NATO Black with the belts regular black.
As you can see it is time to break the fast. Blitzbau make a guy hungry.

Way to go, it coming along. Rotor cockpit painted
Re: Matchbox PK43. OH58D Kiowa Aeroscout
Hour three. Test fit of the fuselage halves and the landing skids taped on. I suspected that there would be a "tail sitting" issue but there was none. I super glued a fishing weight under the seat just to make sure. Oh, Nemo was found. Probably the next issue encountered will eb getting the proper sag in the rotor blades. The D model blades sag for that usual.
I did a Google image search for the subject matter using the serial number. There is some great shots of the same subject a Farnborough circa 1987, the year the kit was released. Appears Matchbox got it right.

Looks like this kit lends itself to blitzing Jeff, or at least in your hands anyway!
As an aside, what was the pink stuff in the put? It reminded me very much (too much actually ) of school pink custard...... I'm going to have to drink a lot of beer to erase that thought now

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

@iggie. That was raspberry yogurt.
In the middle of hour four I have a case on Buildus Interruptus.
I have an unexpected errand to run.
So what I have accomplished so far this hour is all seam lines have been checked and Tamiya Surface primer added as a safety check. So this should set up and rubbed down to my errand did come at a good time. Dry fit of the clear parts shows no fit issues.
If all goes well, it will be a little Glenlivet on ice when done.
I'll just leave this here.

Coming together nicely.
Makes me realise that there are surprisingly few kits if the Bell JetRanger and LongRanger that were ubiquitous in every US TV show/film from my childhood.

Hour six and more done. Really starting to look like a Kiowa now. Seams repaired, tail rotor and dorsal antenna added. I wanted to replace the out of scale kit piece with a wire but can not locate it. It will turn up no doubt when the project is done. The clear parts have been trimmed to fit. Masking will be done before attaching.
Time for a Blitz lunch.

Hour seven. Glass pieces masked and the upper attached with Testors Clear glue. It was a working lunch. Think the drooping rotor blades have been attained. Painted in Tamiya NATO Black.

Hi Michael. I prefer hot water poured over the piece but in this case I carefully bent them from the rotor hub to the tip. Very gently.

Hour eight. Some paint sprayed on and test fitting main rotor. Kinda liking this kit.
Tedious work ahead with the Target designation ball on the mast and the placement of the side windows. At least I know they fit. Anticipate the cockpit doors open. The color call outs for the rotor blades state a outboard leading edge a yellow color. I think what they are referring to is a section of bare Kevlar (a creamy color). But I can not find a photo proving that so solid black they are.
@Michael. The photo I had found was OH-58D 85-24693 (The kit markings)
