Re: The Great Auk's Aukward Blitz Airfix P-40 Attempt
That's a relief, iggie, and many thanks for the encouragement. My dietary restrictions are fortunately limited only by my bachelor cooking. I guess that's bad enough, innit?
Well, the wing went on but I'd forgotten the gymnastics one has to go through to get it on. I suppose we're all prone to forgetting traumatic things like that.
The trick is to hold the wings in the fingers of one hand, putting downward pressure on the wing tips to spread the space where the fuselage will go apart a bit.
Once you get the wings spread, you have to slide the whole thing onto the fuselage. Once you get it all lined up, let off the downward pressure and the inner ends of the wings will (almost) mate with the wing root on the fuselage. As you can see, a rubber band is a good idea to hold it all together and maintain dihedral while the glue sets.
I also got that wonky rudder on along with the horiz. stabs.
That's the P-40 blitz news as of 5:16PM local time. No snack because I've got to make supper.

Coming along nicely, Great Auk. Looks like you'll easily finish within the deadline.

Looking very sharp. Excellent choice in Blitz food.

Re: The Great Auk's Aukward Blitz Airfix P-40 Attempt
Here's the latest update as of 7:41PM local time.
The paint work is mostly done.
The canopy parts are on and the framing painted.
I also did a few more touch-ups. I keep finding little dings here and there. The prop is stuck on with Elmer's glue. I'll probably pull it off to get it out of the way for the next stage of work.
Oh and I also got those gills on the belly right behind the air scoop.
The wing guns have been painted too.
It looks about ready for decals.
No snack because I'm still stuffed from supper which was very nice. I had a chicken sandwich with lettuce, tomato, & mayonnaise and a San Pellegrino "Pompelmo" on the side.
I don't think I have room for desert.

10:02PM local time and I'm calling this one done. Allow me to present a RAAF Tomahawk on detached service with the 80th FG otherwise known as the “Burma Banshees".
I'll take more pics tomorrow and post them. Right now I'm pretty tired after that modeling marathon, but I found a good way to unwind.
Many thanks to John for getting us going and to Jeff for leading us here and everyone for your encouragement.

Nicely done Auk. A decent looking finish, some tasty snacks, and a 100 proof whiskey to finish with. Bravo

Superb build and entertainment together in one thread; fantastic!
Best wishes

Re: The Great Auk's Aukward Blitz Airfix P-40 Attempt
Hello again!
Things are busy at the Audubon Society today so I'm trying to get these "beauty shots" posted during lunch.
RAAF Tomahawk on detached service with the 80th FG otherwise known as the “Burma Banshees".
This aircraft sports darker control surfaces which are field depot replacements for those ravaged by the Jungle Boll Weevil (Jungleous Bollitae Weevillus).
The RAAF Tomahawks temporarily serving with the Burma Banshees participated in only one action of note, the shooting down of the Terror of Mandalay, one General Hamashita.
Soon after this action, these RAAF pilots traded in their war-weary Tomahawks for more modern aircraft.
As little photographic evidence of RAAF Tomahawks wearing those famous Burma Banshees skulls exists, most experts are skeptical the RAAF ever flew with that unforgettable marking.
The model was painted using the old hairy stick and acrylics, a custom mix of green on top and Model Masters RAAF Sky Blue on the bottom mostly. The replacement flight control surfaces were done in Model Masters Euro Green (upper) and Model Masters RAF Duck Egg Blue (under).
Decals were mostly from an Academy P-40E, but the codes were from spares and the Burma Banshees skull on the nose was from a box-scale Monogram P-40N.
I had a whale of a time taking part in my first Blitzbau! I'd like to thank John for setting it all up and his sound advice, Jeff for his excellent leadership, and everyone else for their encouragement.
