Very impressive, I am suprised by that you said this was your first 24 hour build!

Good idea about painting on the spruce! I just paint the small parts on the spruces have not try doing the larger parts.

I want to get a Airfix P-40 and build in the Flying tigers theme with shark mouth decal!

Thanks for kind works

Note I used to have a have bad coke addiction

2 litres per day haha That beef jerky looks tasty....

I think the Zero when up against the p-40. I have a Zero which I might start up a build (not a 24 hour build).

I just about picked up a p-40 from Modelland last month.

Can I ask, did this kit have the shark mouth (decal) scheme in this kit?

Hello Michael and thank you for your kind words and encouragement!

I can't recommend the 1/72 Airfix Curtiss Hawk-81 (P-40B/C) highly enough. This is the best 1/72 scale early P-40 kit out there in my view and is great value for the money. The kit has the famous Shark Mouth decal (see pic of painting guide on back of box) as well as the Flying Tigers mascot for the fuselage sides which are among the best representations I've come across. I was less than pleased with the Nationalist Chinese roundels as the blue is too faded making the white parts hard to see.

I hope this helps and please share your P-40 with us should you get to building one.

Oh that is good to hear Auk, I will pick one up next month for the stash and next build. I missed out last time hope modelland still has it! Good it has the shark mouth my micro sol should conform it well to the curved nose? Did not know they had a mascot. The show air aces did not picture it .

Look for to building one not in 24 hours haha

Look forward to see another build from The Great Auk workbench ! What is in store?

Hello again Michael,

I don't think I've ever used the kit decals on the actual kit, but I've used those shark mouths on other projects and I didn't have any trouble with them. I only needed warm water. I don't use decal solutions, only watered-down Elmer's glue in extreme situations. However, after microwaving a coffee mug of water for 1 min 40 sec those Airfix decals came off the backing fairly quickly and were easy to move around. If any got sticky, I just dabbed a little water on them with a finger. While Airfix decals are a little stronger than most, you still want to proceed carefully.

I hope this helps.

All the best,

The Great Auk

P.S. I'm not sure what next build will be. Maybe a blitz of the ancient 1/72 Fujimi Zero type 54 if I get another full day free between now & the end of the month.

Hi The Great Auk,

As a kid I did use decal set, recently I try Testors then saw video on Micro set and sol. I used it great effect the sol conform to model like painted on!

My next is also a Zero. Airfix...I posted a thread in a Workshop window under Michael's Modeller Mucking About.

Just pick up 24 Alligator clips for detail painting! I only two!

Look for too seeing you Zero! I want do a P-40 to do battle on my model shell haha...
