Pre-1980 boxings of any kit, but preferably hard to obtain -- something that would make a collector cringe to see built.
GB runs 1 Sep to 1 Oct and your host is Gregers.

This is a GB for Rare and Golden Oldie kits, defined as pre-1980 boxings/baggings of any kit and preferably so rare or hard to get that it would make a collector cringe to see it built.

This GB started from a thread here.

The GB runs from September 1st to October 1st; your GBL is Gregers who will fill in any other info.

Many thanks for opening this up John. I will be up in the loft making my final selection very soon. Hopefully tonight.
I am looking forward to seeing what other rarities and dusty golden oldies are dug out of lofts, cellars etc.

All the best.

I'm looking forward to following your build as I have a couple of the bomber version to build some time. It was one I was considering for this build too.

All the best.

I'm in this with the old Airfix CATALINA. Looking forward to watching the fun as we bring these oldies back out and dust them off.

Looking forward to watching the 'Fighting cat' come together. The Catalina is certainly an impressive beast.

All the best.

I had hoped to build the Fujimi 1/48 scale Westland Wasp and convert it into a Scout but having checked the release date it didn't come out until 1982

This leaves me with the Airfix P1127 Kestrel with a conversion to add the gr3 wing to match the version in the fleet air arm museum or the Kitmaster Swiss Crocodile train.

Which do you think I should go for?
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

I'd like to see you do the Kestrel. An amazing bit of history there.

I'll be in on this with another of my beloved vintage Revell 1/32 aircraft, either an Me109-G or and Fw190 A, both in original 1970s boxes. They are not especially rare or even hard to come by - I picked up the Fw190 for £9.00 at Cosford show this year I think it was, but at nearly 50 years old I think either of them should qualify. Having just done the 1/32 Me262 as a Blitzbau, a month seems like luxury so I may build them both simultaneously as I could do with them for the Revell SIG table at Farnborough in September!

Cheers
Al.

I wasn't going to enter GB's unless I'd signed up months ago as modelling mojo seems to have gone south for the summer!!. Railway mojo has been flowing but in an effort to rekindle the former, would an Airfix Buccaneer count?, it's in one of the boxes with artwork and a name bar across the bottom of the front. I'll nip in the loft tomorrow and fish it out. Benn doing too many American things lately!!.
(Granted they are an F-4, an F-14 and an F/A-18 Super Hornet so....).
