Daz's Dunkirk Dogfight Double - **DONE!**

Pre-1980 boxings of any kit, but preferably hard to obtain -- something that would make a collector cringe to see built.

Daz's Dunkirk Dogfight Double - **DONE!**

Post by DazDaMan »

Well, because it's been such a big subject recently, I've decided to do these two from the film Dunkirk:

For this build, I'll be using these two oldies.....

The Spitfire will be completely stock, save for its decals, but the Messerschmitt will require some rhinoplasty to turn it into a Buchon....!

Just to give an idea of the changes that will be needed for the Buchon....

This will be fun to watch.

Are you scratch building the nose or do you have a convertion kit?

Umm..... a bit of both!

The Special Hobby kit of the Buchon, depending on which version you buy, has a spare upper cowling section which I'm hoping to graft onto the Frog kit, once I remove the upper section of the nose. The sides of the nose will need to be shaved down slightly to match the Spitfire spinner I intend to use (it's as close to the Buchon prop assembly as I can manage!). Of course, the entire lower section will have to be filler....!

Hopefully it will look a bit better than my previous attempt....

....which was ALL filler.

Looking forward to following this one. Especially the Bouchon conversion.

All the best.

'Schmitt bits....
Image

The first bits to be modded are the wings.
Image

Clipped wingtips, with the undersides in place.
Image

The new upper engine cowling, alongside the fuselage.
Image

The section to be removed, marked on with a felt pen.
Image

And chopped off!
Image

Both sections modified.
Image

Checking the fit of the wings and fuselage.
Image

The forward fuselage needs shaving down to fit the profile of the upper cowling, so that's the next job!

Look like you have a descent fitting Spit. That should help with the mods.
