Daz's Dunkirk Dogfight Double - **DONE!**

Pre-1980 boxings of any kit, but preferably hard to obtain -- something that would make a collector cringe to see built.

Well, that's pretty much it for building the Spitfire!
Image

I just need to fill in the spinner holes, then sand them down for the in-flight look.

Then, it's on to the painting. I'm also doing a pilot (Jack Lowden) for it, so he will go in eventually.

On to the Buchon....

Wings unwrapped:
Image
Not much left to do to them, really, other than make holes for the dummy cannons.

Fuselage unwrapped:
Image
Need to trim the nose down, but that's not too big of a job. I'll also need to remove the exhaust stubs etc.

Bomb rack removed:

Wings attached:

I've done it this way because the Buchon has a section of the cowling that attaches to the centre section, between the undercarriage. When I start slapping filler onto the thing, better to do it all in the one go!!

Starting to get some paint on the Spitfire....

Upper cowling on the Buchon.....

That big hole will be filled in, while the lower cowling will be modified to the correct shape.

Is it my imagination or do you have slightly more sets of props that are required for this two fighter build?

:-D

No, you're not seeing things, there's five sets of props for one aircraft!

I've been trying to mate up a suitable spinner to the airframe, since the front end is now slightly narrower than standard due to the new cowlings. I might have found a suitable subject, thankfully!

The FROG Spitfire IA is a doddle to build - no fiddly parts to speak of, although it could do with a pilot!

Second layer of dark earth has gone onto the Spitfire, so now it's on to the black and white undersides....

Image

And the Buchon is getting the second part of its rhinoplasty done....

Image

Once that lot dries, it's a case of carving, sanding and shaping to get the right shape. Fun!

The Spit is virtually complete. I just need to paint the pilot figure (Jack Lowden) and get him comfy in the office before I start on the decals....
Image

The Buchon's nose surgery has been a success! The tailplanes have been attached, as has the spinner. I've also installed the undercarriage under the wings (retracted).
Image

I should have the pilot (John Romain) installed later. Because you don't see any detail in the film, the figure will be simply painted black (this is in keeping with the rest of the film, where you don't get a decent look at the enemy.)
