Re: gnomemeansgnome's golden oldie Heinkel 51
Cheers, fellas. This one is cooling its proverbial heels till I finish the Badger's paint and then I can take what remaining floor wax I have and try to distribute it between the two builds.

Re: gnomemeansgnome's golden oldie Heinkel 51
Decals on, and for almost 40 year old Hasegawa ones I have to say they behaved reasonably well. I think it helped that along with the Badger markings I basted these ones very liberally with decal film some time ago and I think that must have helped a fair amount. I had to slice and dice the rudder St. Andrew's cross plus a little flat black touchup but I think it will pass muster. Since the kit supplied St. Andrew's crosses for the wings were of poor quality and one had a bit of a tear in it I have decided to paint them on by hand after the decals have settled in and are dry. Might just have this character done in a day or two, barring any antics with the unusual rigging......

Another great build by you, GMG, really coming to life now the markings are going on.

Re: gnomemeansgnome's golden oldie Heinkel 51
Thanks guys. I got the rest of the floor wax on the decals and St. Andrew's crosses, and once that is dry enough I will join the top wing to the rest of the model. after that if there's time I will get the rigging and dullcote on.
With all the white crosses everywhere I could only think that they were so prominent in an effort to not get shot at by their own side!

Nice work with the crosses, GMG. You are probably right, regarding the size of the crosses, no one wants a "blue on blue". I remember seeing a build of a Vietnam era Cessna O-2 on here that carried the legend "Don't Shoot" in large letters across its upper wing surfaces!

Yes, I believe it was Sunray from our forum here who did that Cessna. Here's where we are with the Heinkel, all trussed up inside a jig that will hopefully tone down the attitude I am getting from the top wing in particular.

You know how it is with biplanes. Sometimes they need some tough love so they look as intended.

Great job with the markings. Looking forward to seeing this one finished.

Re: gnomemeansgnome's golden oldie Heinkel 51
Same here, Tim, thanks. It is in a jig at present to secure the last of the strut installments. Gonna let it out of there in a little while and probably give it a toot of dullcote so I can finish it up with rigging probably today/tomorrow. I have other builds clamouring for space on the bench.
