Re: gnomemeansgnome's golden oldie Heinkel 51
Thanks guys. Tomorrow I might get the rest of the basic airframe together and hopefully some priming done as well on the weekend. Then there is some scratchbuilding of a belly tank to be done.

Re: gnomemeansgnome's golden oldie Heinkel 51
First time in a couple of days that I have been able to sit down and plunk away at my work table. Pinned together the rest of the airframe, final super breakables yet to be added, and the wings are set hopefully to the right dihedral after I prime the lot. Just waiting for it to set first.

It's such a pretty aircraft, isn't it? Coming along very nicely too. I am watching with interest.

Nice one, GMG and I have to agree, the He-51 is a great looking biplane.

It's looking great, how have you done the pre-shading on the control surfaces?
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Re: gnomemeansgnome's golden oldie Heinkel 51
Right after I cut the wings and stabilisers and airframe from the gates I score the control surfaces with a sharp blade and then run flat black paint infused with a bit of dish detergent into them with a brush so the paint settles right into the grooves. I have since started to prime with a light blue rattlecan which vaguely resembles the call outs for the RLM approved colour.

That's some nice progress and I only wish my biplanes looked so crisp!

Re: gnomemeansgnome's golden oldie Heinkel 51
Thanks! Actually I have always found the Hasegawa kits not too badly moulded. If anything my only niggles are that stuff needs a jolly good sanding to barely fit at all, and their pilot figures are kinda crappy and almost always wildly out of scale. As my airbrush hasn't been touched since last winter because it's gone all wonky I have been bankrupting myself by getting ratttlecans when absolutely necessary and brush painting for almost everything else. Here's the state of play after a good thrashing with the light blue as primer.....

Re: gnomemeansgnome's golden oldie Heinkel 51
Thanks, although now I realise belatedly that painting the white ID markings on the rudder and wingtips should have been done BEFORE I trotted out the rattlecan . Ah well, I will just have to get a couple of really good coats of flat white on there first before I proceed any further.

Re: gnomemeansgnome's golden oldie Heinkel 51
Well the upside is that white should adhere well on top of the gray.
I couldn't agree more re: Hasegawa kits. I've built a few of the older ones over the years and they're fairly trouble-free given their vintage.
Looking forward to the next update,
