gnomemeansgnome's golden oldie Heinkel 51 ***Fertig!***

Pre-1980 boxings of any kit, but preferably hard to obtain -- something that would make a collector cringe to see built.

Wow that was well done!

I'd have been thrilled to get the results in the first pic, but you took it up to the next level.

That's some of the best Nationalist camo I've seen yet!

Thanks! I feel like every time I look at online references I am left with more questions than answers. I have seen enough variations in the painting (hard lines and feathered ones, often quite crude and no two aircraft alike) of the light blue undersides/something vaguely resembling RLM numbers for grey, dark brown (often with a purple tint to it!) and green that I have come to the conclusion that there was no attempt at standardising at all. The pilots and their ground crew had to improvise on the spot I imagine, and that's fine with me. So I paint the darker colors by brush, covering them after with blu tak and both Tamiya and painter's tape and lay on the rattlecans of lighter colours. I really need to figure out what the heck is wrong with my airbrush. I also have scavenge a bit and see if I can find the separate bits to make a belly tank with rack, too. So much to do to...

Cheers, gents. Of course, after all that rattlecan excitement, there is the inevitable touching up and getting rid of paint that has ended up where it oughtn't. After this I hope to give it a light dusting of dullcote so I can do washes and scratches without mucking up the acrylic areas....

The wash went on; a bit too heavy and hard to be rid of without wiping off and damaging the green and brown. Ah well, it will be a well-used He-51. Very crude dry fit with top wing too see how it fares so far......

...aaaand if you are wondering why the wingtips and rudder look a bit bare it is because after this wash debacle is over the white ID marks have to go on there.

Got the flat white ID markings on now. After this I think some wax and decals might be in order, and then the top wing can be added for reals.
