Splash's Bloodhound ***Finished***

Pre-1980 boxings of any kit, but preferably hard to obtain -- something that would make a collector cringe to see built.

Splash's Bloodhound ***Finished***

Post by splash »

This is one of my all time favourite kits, I recall as a kid, when first seeing it, thinking Wow, a missile with it's launcher plus a Land Rover with trailer and crew plus a dog all in one packet, now you don't even get a pilot or stand with their kits.

Airfix also included the Bloodhound with their first C130 kit.

Ooh er, I have one in the deep stash but alas it is a Humbrol-era re-issue.

Looking forward to seeing this built, I have been looking for one to add to the stash for some time and then recently Hannants found some from somewhere- two of these are now safely stashed away.

Work has started sticking the missile body and four boosters halves together.

Trying to find good images of a Mk1 Bloodhound is hard as most show the Mk2.

Initially I thought the two types of missile were the same, just different launchers, but after researching them, it turns out that whilst they look similar, the Mk2 is a totally different beast and was loaded onto its launcher using a side mounted fork lift, not the Land Rover and trolley as supplied in the kit.

So this build will be almost OOB

Someone on one forum really went to town with the land rover. It might have been Mike Grant ... or someone over on ATF ... I will try and seek it out. Corricon might know if he looks in

It was Mike - It's in his 'Circuits and Bumps' series & in his book.

I have just found his posts over on ATF - alas the photos have gone from there because of the photobucket issues, but there are some clues to what he did to upgrade his, and a number of other peoples efforts are still there to peruse Alan - here is a link to the gallery:

http://airfixtributeforum.myfastforum.o ... =36&t=2330;

There is also an article in the Tom Tank (Tom Cole) book on Airfix vehicle kits and conversions, and in that book it is done as a Mk2.
Can scan and send article if interested ...

Thanks guys, I recall Mike's build, but I'm not planning on even trying to build to that standard.

Cheers for the link Chris there is some useful info there.

Oddly one of the few kits I failed to complete. Worn moulds and sink marks added to the realisation that though missiles may look cool but I didn't find them interesting build.

It will be great to see one finished with your skills.

I know where you are coming from, missile kits look good but tend to be simple to build with little options.

The worn moulds monster havs risen it's ugly head, when you look at the airmen they all have a big hole in the abdomen and the four rocket boosters halves don't quite line up so I'm looking to replace them with brass tubes.

Cant wait to see this progress. Mike Grant's article came to mind.
