Spaceowl's VNAF O-2 **Finished**

Pre-1980 boxings of any kit, but preferably hard to obtain -- something that would make a collector cringe to see built.

Nice! Every once in a while a Skymaster flies over my apartment and I have to go outside and admire it as it growls into the distance. Really wish I had snapped one up when I had the chance.

Looking like a real plane now:

Wings, tailplane and booms went on very well - a much better and easier process than that of the Arii kit of the Skymaster, in fact. She's looking rather smart, in fact. now it's my chance to change all that - on to the painting!

Brush, I think. The compressor makes too much noise at the time I'm modelling and I want to stay onside with the neighbours.

If it is anything like your previous work the O-2 will look very sharp. Nice work so far.

Arrgghh! Decalling mishap!

I thought it was all going too well. First, got half of the decals on and nicely settled in, including the tail code made from individual numbers, when the foreman decided he would come and inspect work so far, clearing the work table with the downdraft from his small but surprisingly powerful wings. Cue prolonged outbreak of Anglo-Saxon from me, followed by over an hour searching for the widely distributed pre-cut decals.
After that, we had an...encounter  . This was the result:

On top of that, the ancient Airfix prop warning band decals that came with the kit were too brittle and smashed into pieces when I tried to bend them around the tail boom. Luckily, a US firm called Draw Decals makes an O-2 set in 1/72 so I've ordered a set of them. Unfortunately, they won't be here any time soon, so the 'finished' pictures I'm posting tomorrow won't really be finished. Perhaps I can post an update after they arrive.

Complete and on the gallery!

Not the easiest build, I must admit, mainly due to the huge number or transparencies, but I enjoyed doing it - it was far more of a challenge than my usual build, also there's an extra sense of pride in having scratchbuilt replacement parts for the missing ones. Many thanks to all the kind people who sent decals or offered support to me while this build was underway; I think the quality of help I offer here is probably the main reason why I keep coming back to this forum rather than the others I'm on.

Good bits:
Having to do some research for the subject, my first proper shot at scratchbuilding, my first group build in five years.

Bad bits:
Poor fit, poor photography (not my strong point), missing parts in the first place.

In all, a good project. I'm looking forward to the Scando group build in November.
