An act of Piracy with Airfix London Icons soldiers set

Pre-1980 boxings of any kit, but preferably hard to obtain -- something that would make a collector cringe to see built.

What you and PT get up to with these figures, would be totally out of my comfort zone, I just don't have the imagination to see the before and after in my head before starting.

Keep up the excellent work it's a really intriguing thread to watch

Life has got in the way this week, so modelling time has been reduced ... and in a galaxy far far away I am also battling to finish the Vasa ....

There has been a bit of progress, the coat and hat are all now glued up, and fillered and partly painted, and his hands are in place.

Image

Next up is some buttons and detailing for the hat and coat, and then a few other accessories and some treasure to complete things.

2 weeks go to .... so I should be OK I hope ....

Instead of more pirates, deceased Norwegian Blues or town criers, perhaps this might inspire....

Arrrr, Long John be looking in fine trim, Matey. I've tended to avoid that series of Airfix figures as being too stiff looking for the kind of conversions that I like ( with the exception of the Richard the Lionheart, which I'm fruitlessly searching for, and the Charles I, one of which I have somewhere in a state of mid conversion to James Graham of Montrose, the Civil War general).
Are you doing Long John in a scene from the book (or movie) or is it a general 'portrait' type pose?

I can provide the parrot.

May require cutting down a bit. I'm cool with that. (just kidding  No parrots were harmed in the production of this email).

Other than that, it's coming along very well. Don't forget though, plenty of bling - pirate chiefs were notorious for it. Understandable, as there were no banks for their kind and pirates had to walk around wearing their wealth.

Thanks everyone for the support along the way. Real life crept up on me this past couple weeks, and will be hovering overhead for the next two as well. I have however managed to squeeze in a little bit of time just to get this finished.

It has been a selection of parts from the 3 figures in the London Icon set, plus the parrot who was donated by Queen Elizabeth.

Great work Chris. That looks awesome. Well done for getting it done on time too. I too have had reality kick me in the teeth the lasst few weeks so I know how you feel.

All the best.

Well done Chris, that is a great bit of figure conversion work. Figures are really not my forte and I'm always impressed with anyone who can build them like that!
