Nicely camouflaged, Andrew. Did you get collared to prepare supper by the Family Leader?
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

What's for supper?
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

You've got a real talent for painting camo schemes, Andrew, and this Lysander is looking like proof of that!
The bad news is if your cooking skills equal your modeling talents, you may find yourself pressed into "supper service" fairly often.
Enjoying your progress immensely,

Great paint work Andrew!
If it's any consolation I cook almost all our dinners. My wife is a great cook..... she just hates cooking. I'm a good cook but she'd rather clean up after me and not cook at all.

Avoided it by some miracle that night, but it was delayed owing to some issues ( ) with younger son. Don't ask...ShaunW wrote:Nicely camouflaged, Andrew. Did you get collared to prepare supper by the Family Leader?

We share the cooking duties, so it wasn't entirely unexpected. The Great Auk wrote:You've got a real talent for painting camo schemes, Andrew, and this Lysander is looking like proof of that!

Anyhow, here is the glacial progress on the Lizzie...
Wings are now painted black underneath, and I am just studying how to attach them, and how to disguise the bad fit!
After that picture was taken, I decided that painting the cowling collector ring was a good idea. Freehand, with a mix of aluminium and saddle grey.
I keep seeing them painted in a bright copper colour - this is not correct, it is a very dull, oxidised metal finish, so something in the dullish gold-grey to brown-grey range is much more realistic.
The canopy framing needs doing next, then I can stick the wings, spats and a few dangly bits on.

It's coming along nicely.
With reference to the engine cowl, I can see why copper is often quoted in colour call outs as the burnt oil stained steel often takes on a dull copper look. In the past I have found silver with a brown oil colour paint looks OK.

I really like the look of that collector ring, Andrew, and it's set off nicely by your wonderful representation of that famous SEAC camo.
Concur that copper is a bit too bright. I am a total wuss when it comes to collector ringsand avoid them as much as possible. I may have tried to get away with painting them black on once or twice on planes with a night scheme.
Thanks for the update, you're getting closer to roll-out!

That looks really good. I think the important thing is not have them look too shiny. Even taking the shine off metallic copper with matt varnish is an improvement.splash wrote:It's coming along nicely.
