AndrewR's Frog Lysander - SEAC Spy Plane
Here is my entry for the GB. A very battered original boxing of the Frog Lysander I/III
The box alone should qualify for the "Golden Oldie" title
This was an eBay find for about $3. All of the parts seem to be present, although the stand appears to be quite large, so I;m not sure it is the original.
There is also a spare wing from a completely different kit in the box (see below). Slightly gull-winged, two cannon ports - maybe the Frog Sea Fury?
I will build the kit OOB, in the lower of the two schemes - the black underside SEAC scheme. The decals have been soaking up the sun for two weeks in the back window. The yellowing has gone, but they do seem cracked in places. I'm hoping to be able to salvage the SEAC roundels and red codes, but might need to replace the while fuselage codes.
I may not get around to doing much until Wednesday, as my teaching starts this week.
cheers
Andrew

Sweet. Not a kit I have ever owned. Looking forward to this one for sure.
Not a Seafury wing. Not sure what it is from though.
All the best.

I went to the Canadian Aviation And Space Museum yesterday, so I had a good look at their Lizzie...

Andrew,
Your stand looks like mine, your box looks better then mine, but I will not need the decals as my kit is destined to be a tandem-wing conversion and I will be happy to send them to you if needed. They are yellowed, but not cracked in any way.

Thanks for the offer John, I think most of them are salvageable. We will see laterjRatz wrote:Andrew,

Cheers! Not much action this week, as it was the first week of term and things were a bit hectic.celt wrote:Next to the Hurricane, the Lizzie is my fave aircraft.Watch this with interest.
I've washed everything and stuck together the wings and horizontal stabilisers. The wings aren't a great fit, and will probably need a bit of sanding on both leading and trailing edges. The belly tank halves are also a poor fit, but as it's black, and slung between the wheel spats, probably won't be visible. I also put the cockpit together. Unusually for a Frog kit, there is a floor, seats, and instrument panel and optional rear gun. Not all of the complex framing in the cockpit is present, although with the thick canopy closed, it's debatable how much extra detail to put in. So I'll go with the easy option: none
I'm hoping to get a coat of primer on the interior, and the engine/cowling assemblies tomorrow, so I can get a few more bits

Hi Andrew,
Great choice. You know I love these old Frog classics. I never built this one and will try to follow your progress.

Re: AndrewR's Frog Lysander - SEAC Spy Plane
The "Spy Plane" option would have been the first choice for me as well, Andrew. As soon as I think "Lysander" I think of agents being dropped off in dark French fields. The type features a fair amount of glazing but I would hazard a guess that it is milk bottle thick in a kit of this age - just add some Tamiya tape belts to the seats and call it detailed
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Re: AndrewR's Frog Lysander - SEAC Spy Plane
Pictures to follow, as they seem to be in cyberspace limbo at present
Here is the picture (finally).
I have the engine cowling assembled and am busy painting the wheels. Hopefully I will get a second coat of paint on the cockpit this evening. In the picture above, you will notice that the paint didn't cover properly, due to grease. Obviously I missed that bit with the toothbrush when I scrubbed everything!
Shaun, the canopy is jam jar thickness, so it's a moot point if seatbelts are needed

Waiting for the day, when wars for territory will be something to be read about in history books only.

So, repainted the interior with a paler shade of green. The fuselage is together, and the wheel spats assembled.
Most of the other bits are primed. I should be able to start painting the wings and stabilizers this evening.
The other build is the Monogram P40N, see "More Tales From the Basement Lab".

This is coming along nicely. It's tempting me to dig out my Matchbox Lizzies.
