OT's Persian Recon Tiger

Pre-1980 boxings of any kit, but preferably hard to obtain -- something that would make a collector cringe to see built.

I used Uhu white tack as I find it less sticky than Blu-tak.

The underside is painted and the U\C leg has been repaired so I decided to start decaling.
Now all I have is some spare decals from an old Italeri F-5F but they are the correct size although I suspect they are about 30 years old. This might account for the strange milky residue that oozed out of them onto the wing. :???:
Circled in red.

I am struggling to remove it - I don't want to use any thinners in case I damage the paintwork.
This kit must be cursed.

I think we’re in the same boat OT. That residue looks a mess. My thought is cotton buds and warm water. Oh and patience. But I will say it is a smart looking build. Got my fingers crossed for you!

Just the curse of using old decals I guess. Mist of it has come off and I'll disguise the rest when I weather the plane.
I am just finishing off the U\C doors and lights etc. so should be complete by tonight.

Images to follow.

Hopefully you can get shut of that milky residue OT - I've experienced in in the past with older decals, although not to the extent of your model and used water and a cotton bud to clean it off.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Work is the curse of the modelling classes!

This is as far as I got before the deadline.

Just the guns to add and unmask the canopy so I will do that tomorrow rather than balls it up (anymore ).

Thanks Dollar. I am finally getting to the end and i have figured out why my airbrush was being so crap (yes it wasn't me ). The tip is damaged (so I guess it must have been me :???:) a new part is on order.

Anyway this should be completed later today. I am waiting for the paint to dry on the gun barrels. I would normally have changed these for some stretched sprue but in the spirit of the group build I am using the golden oldie parts.

Then the moment of truth will be unmasking the canopy.

Well I'm calling this one done.

I will post some images taken in daylight in the completed gallery later today.

Overall I enjoyed the result if not the process. Certainly a golden oldie but not a classic kit IMHO. The wing tanks make it a bit more authentic and the recce nose was strangely a better fit than the kit part. :???:
Would I build another - probably but only if I got it for next to nothing, I have several esci F-5's in the stash that are far better. Having said that, for a 50 year old model I think it can hold its own and blows away the PM, Airfix & Matchbox examples. Hope you like it.

Lovely work, OT. It really captures the look of an IIAF Freedom Fighter.

Cracking work. Having a bit of an F-5 stint myself, doing the aggressor schemes of the USAF. This looks well smart.
