Re: gnomemeansgnome's golden oldie Badger
A little sanding here, a little filing there and now the (very) basic airframe is assembled. Seems the forward open landing gear bay has been consigned to oblivion, so I will have to make one from scratch I guess to do some ground display pics at some point before it gets tacked to the ceiling with the rest of my armada. Those hatches will be held in place by white glue prior to being put up, of course , so I can swap them out for closed doors.
Once that not so well engineered tail is dry I can get on with cramming a couple of shims to make the very noticeable gap disappear, and more preparatory pre-priming sanding and hopefully have that seen to by the weekend.....

A light dusting with light grey primer tells me that I have to make some hard decisions regarding sanding and/or filling

Re: gnomemeansgnome's golden oldie Badger
I usually get around that by thinking of them as "enhanced panel lines" but it appears you're made of far sterner stuff!
Best of luck and I like the gray. Red stars would be set off nicely against it.

Re: gnomemeansgnome's golden oldie Badger
Hahaha! Yes that is exactly what I should do too! Yeah if I were to do it in grey then it would need white too I think at a cheatline and it would be a Soviet Navy machine instead, though I haven't found one in that scheme, like say a Backfire. But I am hoping to do it in bare metal finish like the B-29 resto I did a while ago. This is just primer to ferret out the problem extant gaps and flash before I really prime in gloss black.

Re: gnomemeansgnome's golden oldie Badger
Further sand and fill on the upper fuselage spine and constant squinting up at as much light as I can to see if I have bent the styrene and putty to my will or not, and for the larger yet mostly symmterical lines on the belly, along with assorted turrets and blisters will be filled in with white glue and smoothed down with a damp rag and hopefully that tones them down. Against my better instincts to know better, I have a DRAGON 1:200 scale Tu-95 (not an entirely different scale from the Badger) that would looks good flying in formation at some point, making trouble somewhere and waving to all the nice F-15 and Typhoon drivers. These are really nice looking airplanes.

Re: gnomemeansgnome's golden oldie Badger
I actually have another Badger, 1:144 scale from someone called OKB. It's pretty rough looking but maybe one day I will tackle it.

Re: gnomemeansgnome's golden oldie Badger
I know right? I have another possible contender that is also classic early 60's Monogram, but the boxing is 1986 or something. It would look pretty good in an airborne dio with the Badger, I'm thinking

Re: gnomemeansgnome's golden oldie Badger
IIRC Hawk boxed a F-102 in 1/87 way back in the 50 or early 60s that would look sharp in gaggle!
