Nice one, VV. I think Marky is looking for some hints and tips regarding a streaky Fokker finish.

Apologies for my scarcity, both as GBL and builder. I was away all last weekend then the runaway freight train that is work ran me over this week once again

Anyway, I've managed to get a decent amount done this weekend. Should be right to finish by the end of next w/e.

Fuselage is masked up for painting the albino bumblebee stripes. I just need to mask up the top wing then I can hit it all with the back rattle can.

But here is another gripe with the Eduard kit. This is a shocking mis-fit for a manufacturer that is meant to have well engineered kits. In scale, there is half a foot worth of misalignment of the tail. The options were to align it with the end of the fuselage and have a 2mm gap to fill at the front of the tail or to align it at the front and trim back the end of the fuselage. I went with option (B) and sanded the fuselage short. Not impressed, though! That leaves any previous Roden fit issues for dead!

Top wing masked up and good to go. Tomorrow I'll be hitting them with the black spray.

Well, the masking appears to have worked

I'm off interstate to a model show on Saturday but with any luck I'll knock it over between now and the end of Sunday.

Getting there

With any luck, tomorrow will see it done.

The wing and undercarriage went on with little or no fuss, so that's one point up for Eduard.

Fiddly stuff to do now - detail bits, tyre painting, prop laminations and rigging lines (mostly control wires. Plenty to keep me occupied tomorrow....in between marking end of year exams  :???:

As a fan who has built and modified quite a few Dr1s, I'm following this build with enthusiasm VV. I love the streaking and the masking you've got done. This will be an attractive model for sure when you finally finish it. Sorry the engineering left you with a "fix" choice that we builders should never have to make. You pulled it off nicely. :)

BTW - you mentioned grading papers. Sorry for asking, but what subject and grade level do you teach?

I'm a teacher too (4th grade) so I understand how at certain times of the year the job's time demands just rules out large blocks of quality building time. ;-)

Sorry to mention it so late, but the 1/28th DR.1 that I did (By Revell) had the same thing with the tail as the picture above has. :???:
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

Done at last!

Still not entirely happy with the streak effect and I may re-do it at some point, but I'm more than happy with how the black and white stripe turned out.
The prop laminations were done using 0.7mm masking tape but they're a little too hard edged for my liking. I might try freehand next time.

Anyway, I present Fokker DR.1 of Bruno Loerzer, Jagdgeschwader III, 1918.

Great job. Really bummed to see the massive goof Eduard made with the tail.
