How is this big old bird going? Have you been able to make a start on it?

Well... I've made a start if you can call it that...VickersVandal wrote:How is this big old bird going? Have you been able to make a start on it?
Engine assembled (only three parts)...
Somewhat old the original moulding....
If you can't quite make it out the year says 1957!!!.
Pilot's office.
The black thread the instructions informed me 'Wasn't included'!!!
My modelling mojo has been reduced to a trickle over the last month or so, but I will try and get this one going. There are already holes for the rigging in the parts, although you have to thread them in from the inside which means careful handling over the next few weeks!!.
Oh and everything's so RED!!!!!
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

Is the red plastic like Airfix's old red plastic quite hard and brittle?
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

Strongly coloured plastic is a pet hate of mine, Mark. Actually for a kit of that vintage the detail looks promising!

It seems quite firm plastic, I don't know how brittle it is, I'm trying not to break anything!! . As far as coloured plastic like this I have to agree Shaun, I don't like it either, although Matchbox kits are somewhat acceptable!!. The kit is meant to be the Red Baron's hence the colour. Revell did the same with their 1/72 Red Arrows Hawk!!.ShaunW wrote:Strongly coloured plastic is a pet hate of mine, Mark. Actually for a kit of that vintage the detail looks promising!

Modelling mojo has upped it's flow a little in the last few days, the engine is painted and the fuselage is together. That's it I'm afraid but getting my inclination to model back a little.

By the way, with the German use of w's as v' and vice versa (IIRC), is this chaps name pronounced werner voss or verner woss?. Never been sure.

Re: Marky's DR.1 Werner Voss.
I was told it was Ver-ner Vooss, a long o in the surname, like book or look, not short as in boss
Al speling misteaks aer all mi own werk..
Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

Re: Marky's DR.1 Werner Voss.
Seeing your build is seriously tempting be to get one of these.
As for German pronunciation. iirc V is pronounced as an F. W is as stated as V ie. VW should be FV (Folks Vagen ) as I said though, IF I remember correctly. Perhaps a German forum member could help here?
All the best.

Thanks Greg. So we're leaning towards Verner Foos?.Gregers wrote:Seeing your build is seriously tempting be to get one of these.

Re: Marky's DR.1 Werner Voss.
Could be but thinking about it the VON in Richthofen's name seems to be pronounced as V but a singular pronouncing of the O, so the ball is still in the air so to speak.
Talk about confusing
