Re: Marky's DR.1 Werner Voss.
Yes - my method at any rate. It's probably possible to dry brush it on but I haven't tried it. I used the runnier paint off the top so it wouldn't go on with an even coat, since I wanted the streaky finish I am usually at pains to avoid....MarkyM607 wrote: Thanks VV. That is helpful. Just to be clear, you streak the paint while it's wet?
I just looked at some reference photos and had a crack with a flat brush and some olive paint and it came out about right.

Re: Marky's DR.1 Werner Voss.
I have to apologise to VV, I went with my own choice rather than the good one's he suggested. Sorry buddy!! . I went with dry brushing as I'm more familiar with it, it looks okay but see what you all think.
I've also had a go at painting the face on the cowling. Of course this is a 'poor' freehand effort!!!.
I went by this picture on the front of the old 1/72 Airfix kit (which by the way, despite being sealed since 1980 something, has the top wing missing!!!!! ).

Nice one, Mark, I like the look of the overall "streaky" paint job and that is a good effort with the cowling "face"

Thanks all!!. I'm very happy with the face, I slightly cheated by drawing it on in pencil first!!. I like the streaky effect although I'm not sure it's the required effect!.

Re: Marky's DR.1 Werner Voss.
No need to apologise to me at all! You model how you would like
Your streak effecy is nicely subtle - more so than I've acheived this time around.
The face looks amazing for being hand drawn

Re: Marky's DR.1 Werner Voss.
Looks great Mark. These 28th scale Revell kits are HUGE and they take a lot of work. I built this very kit in a similar scheme a while back - unfortunately mine was an open box eBay pick up and I had to scratch build parts - not an easy or enjoyable task I can tell you.
Your streaking technique is effective and I too commend you for your "freehand" treatment of the iconic face marking on the cowling.
To answer your earlier post, Revell made the Dr.1, the SpAD XIII, the Sopwith Camel, and the Fokker D.VII in 28th scale. No Nieuport in this scale.

That's what I meant, SPAD. , Clearly I typed it's name in disguise as Nieuport!!pmmaker wrote:Looks great Mark. These 28th scale Revell kits are HUGE and they take a lot of work. Thanks for your comments on the streaking, it seems to be meeting with approval, perhaps I'm my own worst critic, as we all must be at some point. The kits are a great size, I'd like a Pup but the Camel was good.
I'm very happy with the face, almost surprised myself (as Han Solo said!).

Here she is. Streaked and decalled and face(d??). Enjoyed this one a lot, 1/28th seems a very good scale for these types IMHO.
Fokker DR.1, Werner Voss, Jasta 2, 23rd September 1917 (the day he was killed fighting multiple RFC aircraft from 56 Squadron).
Not overly happy with that join line!
Here's looking at you....
(I also added a bit to the lip of the cowling, it seems it had a deeper front that other Dr.1's.

You know, I really like the rough, hand painted look for the face. Somehow it seems more realistic like it was hand painted by some guy out in the field at some rather basic airfield in 1917.MarkyM607 wrote:Here she is. Streaked and decalled and face(d??).
