Crashpilot´s Airfix old tool A-4D Skyhawk, DNF :-(

Select the most rubbish kit in your stash, one that probably has no other chance of seeing a workbench, and build it however you wish - and have fun doing it along with others likewise occupied.
The GB runs from 27 Dec through 31 Jan and your host is DazDaMan.

Crashpilot´s Airfix old tool A-4D Skyhawk, DNF :-(

Post by Crashpilot »

....it´s a 90ies boxing of this very old kit, at least I can hope for the decals not to give me too much trouble?

Image
I´ll spend most of the xmas time somewhere else with family, so I can only start this one by next Saturday, which
is a pity - -- oh, I might find a corner, where I could start scratching the elevators (maybe under the xmas tree is a good place to hide myself for a little bit of modelling? )
Waiting for the day, when wars for territory will be something to be read about in history books only.

You're a brave soul but if your past builds are a guide, you'll come out on top, Crash!

Maybe clear coat the decals for luck?

I've never built one of these, but I do need a Skyhawk for my movie model collection! (Top Gun, obviously.)

Good luck!

Until Friday, I can't do anything for this build -I left all my modelling at home - cause I'm staying with family right now.
A few days without modelling...

Back in the mid sixties I built one of these and spent hours of fun playing with it.

From what I recall it was a kit of its time and probably did not pass the test of time. However the new release Airfix A4 is an excellent kit.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

So, here is the overview of the plastic:
Image

...all there, except for elevators, which I´m tryin to copy from the ones from my other boxing of this kit:
Image

....pilot figure is too good to be wasted on a KK, I´ll save him for another kit:
....and decals seem to be ok?
Image

I got a spare Matchbox jet pilot, that broke a leg, he´ll be the victim for this build:

Best of luck with the elevators and decals, Crash!

Splash has it right about the new tool A-4, it's a real honey of a kit and might be a nice way to recover after this one's built.

My Skyhawk dated from the 1980s and the decals were OK when I built it a few years back. I suppose a lot depends on the conditions that they've been stored in.

Well, who feels it, knows it
Time to get rolling with this one! Great Auk´s already over the finish line!
I´m lucky that this kit has hardly any panel lines - nothin to stop me from giving it a reckless sanding job, after filling and filing her up!

a little progress:
Image

...but wasted half the day searching for my line engraver (without finding it  ), then I just grabbed for an old cutter, and some too-thick saw, to start the operation on the plasticard -
- and glued the drop tanks, but that´s it for today!

one elevator - the fixed part of it - is already taking shape:
Image

....now to find some styrene for the "movable" part of the elevators - I don´t want to use that thick 2mm strong board I used before for this! ....... aaaah, found something:
Image
it says: PS - polystyrene, on it, so it´s my kind of plastic!

....and some thingie that serves as jet pipe - here it is:

Image

Don´t know where I got it from?
Should look alright up the Skyhawk´s butt:
