Tim's old Frog Focke Wulf **Finished**

Select the most rubbish kit in your stash, one that probably has no other chance of seeing a workbench, and build it however you wish - and have fun doing it along with others likewise occupied.
The GB runs from 27 Dec through 31 Jan and your host is DazDaMan.

Tim's old Frog Focke Wulf **Finished**

Post by TimJ »

I bought this at SMW a few years ago for the princely sum of £1.00. After reading a bit about it online I thought I'd dig it out as I thought it would make a good candidate for this GB.

As you can see there is no cockpit interior so I'll be doing a Great Auk and painting the inside of the canopy. The lack of any wheel well detail (not even a panel line to show where they should be) is a different matter. :???:

Good luck - and definitely fodder for this GB, by the looks of it!

Here's wishing you success with this one, Tim!

I think the kit's simplicity actually works in your favor and if your past builds are any guide, you should prevail gloriously!

Looking at the parts, I'm thinking: Get out the tube glue, paint brush, and remember back when you were a child; it should be done and tied onto the end of a string in about 20 minutes.
Good luck with the build.

Mmmmm, this is something of an old classic, Tim. It looks like the wheels down option requires the main landing gear to be glued directly onto the wing underside, given that there are no wheel wells. Oh dear, not a good start. I'm not sure even the markings option for the well-known ace Georg-Peter Eder can save this one. There are good classic kits and then there are krap ones and this is a fine candidate for this exercise  For the purposes of this GB I'd be tempted to do this old skool on a stand and I agree it's a good idea to black or maybe dark blue out the canopy.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

I think I built one of these a while back. Tinted canopy seems perfect for this "wûnder kit"

The simplicity of this one might work in your favor. Gives one the opportunity to have more fun with paint and markings.

There are holes in the underside of the wing to fit the legs into but as the blades have broken off the prop over the years it might be better on a stand with a prop blur fitted.

Once I got started it didn't take long to get it to this stage.

The fit of parts has been good so far and I've only needed a bit of filler here and there.

As is usual with my GB entries after an initial flurry of activity nothing happens until there are only a few days left and then its a mad dash to the finish. After some filling and sanding I've been doing some painting today.

The yellow will need another coat but I should still be finished on time.

This kit interests me, I´m thinking bout getting myself one! Seems it´s good for trying out new things, and the shape of the plastic is not too bad, I think?
Will you build it wheels up, or down?
Waiting for the day, when wars for territory will be something to be read about in history books only.

Thanks for the comments. Crashpilot, it will be wheels down.

I finished the painting today and after adding the canopy I gave it a few coats of Klear.

Time to find out what shape the decals are in.

I'm liking that!

Will you need an extension to finish this one?
