Mav's Condor MiG-25U - D.N.F

Select the most rubbish kit in your stash, one that probably has no other chance of seeing a workbench, and build it however you wish - and have fun doing it along with others likewise occupied.
The GB runs from 27 Dec through 31 Jan and your host is DazDaMan.

Mav's Condor MiG-25U - D.N.F

Post by IronMan129 »

Hey all.
I have decided to go for the 1/72 Condor Mikoyan MiG-25U.
Ill be finishing her in Ukrainian Air Force Markings as Blue 25.

The detail of the kit is IMHO absolutely fantastic, its just the fit, flash and the sheer amount of dirt left on the kit from the mould solution which makes this a Kk for me.

I'll be starting this right at the starting pistol of this GB as I definitely need as much time as possible on this one.

Can I ask, does the Condor 1/72 MiG-25U Foxbat count as a Krap Kit?

Ok so here's the first lot of progress pics of this GB!
I know its only 25 minutes in which I wouldn't be able to get alot done on the kit but I'm going to use this as a way of showing some of the problems with this bird and I just had to be the first to post!

The first problem I have faced with this kit is the huge break through the bottom of the fuselage:
Image
All fixed with Tamiya liquid poly cement which has now been sanded and readied for the next step(after pics were taken):

Heres another issue I found with the kit, in the wheel well there is a random hole, I can assume this is because of an issue with Condor's molds?

I'm not sure weather I'll bother filling it as It just cannot be seen from the outside of the fuselage.

Also here is one of the tail sections:

I'm unsure what the problem here is but the sprew joins when cut from the part damaged the part quite badly so this is probably going to be quite the filler monster!

Next will be closing up the fuselage halves.

I'll point out I got this xmas day and she hasn't even had the chance to go into the stash.
I also need to buy some Vallejo Model Air 71.267 Light Green for the cockpit in the next few days so I'll be trying to do other things before going onto the cockpit and nose section.

Thanks for looking.

Since the last update I've closed the 2 fuselage halves, put the 2 Tail sections and the fuselage section that the afterburners slide into so the whole thing is coming together nicely so far:

Next is filling..........

Managed to get a bit more done.

One of the gubbins had snapped off somehow but had nothing to do with me, it can be seen in this pic resting on the wing:
Image

After sorting that out I cleaned the flash and filled the holes in the indersides of the wings:

Then they were glued on and filled:

She's really coming together now and so far Im quite pleased with the progress.

I might get a bit of sanding done tonight if I feel up to it after a grooler of a shift.

Thanks Great Auk!

This morning I was working on the air intakes.
I built them and i stalled them in such a way that they Holt the cockpit section when its put in place.
Unfortunately there is a huge gap inside each air intake as it looks like someone has cut part of the plastic off, I swear this kit should never have looked like this and even my lack of skill is better than were it came from!

Ouch! Talk about a challenge. This is where I'd employ the old putty, nail polish remover and Q-tip trick.

I have no doubt you will get the better of this one!
