During the Second World War my late Father was Skipper on the LST157 and he saw action in Norway and the English Channel on Fairmile Mine Layers and Normandy and Out the Far East in LST15U, for years I have been trying to get a model in a reasonable scale of an LST and finally found this cheap Lindgberg 1/245 scale kit.

Lindberg are not famous for quality kits and this one doesn’t disappoint but it is an LST so due to the lack of alternatives that won’t break the bank I have no choice.

Before skippering the LST he was in charge of a flotilla of Mine Layers that’s how he got the DSO.

Having now started I think you’re right, it’s big and covered in injector marks, I’m thinking it might need the deck skimming with thin plastic card. The kit comes with two nice little Higgins boats but I need four so some scratch building will be required.

Only one answer just sand everything off the deck and star afresh

Cheers Chris, It’s definitely qualifies for this GB

But to be fair the one piece hull is not bad for its age with no sink marks and now the deck has been sanded smooth it gives me a good blank canvas to start with.

The deck has been cleared of all detail and I have added the strengthening strakes that run along the hull sides.

Awww, I built that decades ago and rather liked it. I have a motorized one buried in the stash somewhere.

This is another subject the 1/350 guys need to do, complete with cargo & stuff.

I must admit this kit is starting to grow on me, I thought at first they had overdone the gratings on the deck, that run between the round air vents, but having check images they look about right.

Coming together nicely. I didn't realise the RN went in for such exotic and imaginative names as 'HMS LST 157'.

I must admit it’s not the most catchiest or imaginative of ships names.

Yes DSO on the left and a Norwegian medal on the far right
