He got the DSO for carrying out two Mine laying runs off the French coast in the same night, operating out of Dover as skipper of a Fairmile ML.

Having checked his records I don’t think he was on the LST157 when she operated during the Normandy landings as the Americans didn’t transfer her to the RN until December 1944.

The kits superstructure has no detail just flat surfaces, I gather on the original kit they gave you decals that had the doors, scuttles and hand rail detail, but not on the decals supplied with the later versions, so I have cut a strip of thin plastic to rap around the superstructure and punched out the scuttles I then added the doors.

You're missing the hinges on the doors

Just kidding. Lovely detail although the original issue with decals was a good solution for more junior modellers.

PS - Having watched your work here now for a few years, I bet you could put the hinges on if you tried but please do not feel I challenged you to do so. That might be considered OCD and it's great work you've done already!

I’m not sure which way to go, the British ships had twelve handles that secured the doors but this was an American ship and I’m not sure how they closed their hatches was it a wheel in the centre or just one leaver?

I can vouch for Oyamaru. I've cast a few things using that to make the mould. Works great and is fully reusable!

Cheers Daz a quick search on eBay found some, so it’s on order.

And good news on the door research, I found an image showing they had small hinges and only three leavers top/bottom & side so David the challenge is on

I bet this krap kit will turn into some silk purse....

I’m starting to feel a bit guilty as this kit is not as krap as I first thought, it’s more just a kit of its time, it’s lacking detail but the shape is right, it’s just a shame about the scale.

I would probably go along with that for my L.C.I. (paddle steamer)as well. Not so much a krap kit as basic, of its time and moulds showing their age. But "unfortunately" we are used to better these days.

I am sticking to crap as an appropriate description of the one I am doing (which has been stalled for a week but I am back on today)!

I wonder if this LST kit is a Lindberg original? On scalemates, it says LB issued it in 1974 under their label, but not as new tool, it just says "unknown" there...
I doubt LB has the competence to do a full hull without sink marks
(Though some people did incredible things with ORIGINAL LB kits here on this forum, I know....)

I cannot tell you the exact year I built the LB LST but it was well before 1974.
I have an original boxing 702M of the motorized one but cannot find a date on anything.

I have rather fond memories of Lindberg regardless. IIRC, it was their TBF Avenger with controls moveable from the cockpit.

I really can´t claim to be an expert on LB kits, I only built 3 of them, and all of them didn´t survive one of the last moving-of-house, so I´m a bit partial.
Here in continental Europe, Lindberg is a rather exotic brand, it´s quite likely to meet a modeller, that never heard of it!
I´m sure I have a soft spot for kits/ brands, most other modellers would run away from, the old Frog Spitfire I/V, f.e.,
comes to my mind - "objectively" seen, it´s krap - but I really like it, and will build it a second time, one day!
I guess most modellers have some favourites here and there, where most others just shake their heads to!
(Avenger with controls moveable from the cockpit: sounds INTERESTING! )
