This is a "get your feet wet" GB for figures and busts for those who have been reluctant to try or want to expand their skills. Any era, any scale, any subject(s) -- even supporting vehicles/equipment are allowed, say in a diorama/vignette, although the emphasis is on the figures.

This GB started from a thread here.

This GB runs from 1st January to 11th February and your host is rob_van_riel who will fill in any other info

Well, here we are then.

From the discussion thread, I expect we'll have a nice mixture of old hands and people new to the domain. This forum being what it is, I expect the old hands would offer assistance even without being asked, but given the nature of this GB, I feel I'd be remiss in my duties as GBL if I didn't make this explicit. So, old hands, please back up the new folks, new folks, don't be afraid to ask for advice.

Above all, lets make this an enjoyable start of 2018's modeling :-D

Since nudging people awake/back to work is park of my responsibilities, I'd really appreciate a quick check in post (or better yet, a thread with a project) from everyone. I'm a lazy so-and-so, so I'd ike to keep the amount of nudging to a minimum :-D

Thanks for the reminder Rob - I needed it
May I presume that the material for the figure can be anything? eg white-metal, resin or plastic?
I might start with a white-metal figure - to warm up, so to speak.
I'll start a thread closer to the start date.

You're welcome.
Yes, of course, medium can be anything you like.
In fact, don't hold back in that respect at all; if someone wants to carve a thing of beauty out of, say, wood or marble, go ahead. Classical scuplture is probably the oldest form of figure modelling, and I see no reason to epoch-ist :-D

I’m currently building the Airfix 1/32 17 pounder Anti-Tank gun so this will be a perfect time to build the guns crew if that’s OK ?

I'm still, kicking around and will get my project started.
I have 3 1/48th scale WWI pilot figures to do. I may add a 4th if I get the one I'm thinking of getting.

Last time I checked, gun crews were people, and that makes them figures when scaled down  So by all means, join the fun. Actually, you won't be the only one building a gun crew; planecrazyman61 has a Russian crew lined up for this.

I’m also looking at attempting something slightly different if that’s ok, I have picked up a MEGA BLOCKS set from Call of Duty the sniper figure is quite good and I think with some cutting and filling would make a good figure. What’s your thought?

An uncommon medium to use as a basis for a model, but who cares. We're here to try out new stuff, and I don't think this particular trick has been tried before. Amaze us by making it into a stunner :-D

If my calculus isn't off, our Easternmost participant is at GMT+13, so it's time to say

Happy new year everyone :party

Try to avoid the hangovers and suddenly missing bits of anatomy associated with the festivities, and have a great 2018.
