Rough Rider *** "finished" ***

I bought this figure bust perhaps a dozen years ago with the intent of learning something. I got as far as repairing a few dings and airholes and putting on a white primer, before I quit. It is on my "shelf of shame" list to be completed, so here we go.

This will be an attempt to improve on my efforts with Cpt Nathan Brittles in the Screen Stars GB, particularly the eyes. I will be using Vallejo acrylics.

I will be working from a colorized period photo which will change the scarf to red and lighten out his moustache.

Maybe this will help: http://uamf.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=378&t=16314&start=23;. With the larger scale this bust seems to have, you could probably improve on that process by curving the sides of the iris, and perhaps (if the bust is large enough, and you're feeling brave enough to risk it) put a pupil in the centre.

I don't know your reason but anything I've read would support a red neckerchief too

Well, I did some sanding to try to fit the hat better. One of those tasks that has me taking off stuff here and there until nothing fits so I quit while ahead (no pun intended) and went on to neatening the base.

Still have not got all the paints out yet.

How I wish I didn't recognise that particular scenario

No pix. I decided I had filed and fit enough. I ran a bead of Vallejo filler around the edge of his head and a glop of CA in the middle, then held the hat tightly in place. I think I need a slight bit of filler for a slight gap one side. That'll be tomorrows task, then maybe a picture.

a suggestion; Put a thin bead of fillers around where head and hat join; then tease vertical-ish lines into the fillers with a knife. A person's hair shows around the hat line, unless he's Yul Brynner or Telly Savalas of course

Thanks, Fred, about what I had in mind.

Teddy all cleaned up, hat put on, and primered.

He looks a decent sort

Nice prep work; that should set you up nicely for the rest 8-)

He does, but it is the sort of 'decent sort' you don't particularly want to mess with. Which, of course, is exactly how it should be.

That looks like a fine bust.
If you mess up on the painting, perhaps you can make him a Robin Williams instead of a Roosevelt. Then you'd be on your way for a night in the museum.

I could be farther along but I'm trying to drag the Cavalry scout diorama forward so I can be painting on all of them; this could have been a bad decision. OTOH, there have been enough interruptions that perhaps I had no choice after all.

Is it just me or did this thought pop into others heads?
It's just me isn't it?
